Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

I thought I would post a few pictures of a "Montana Teaser" (my rendition of a large swell center hunter) WIP. My customer sent me this paper based yellow Micarta and I was really happy with the almost vintage celluloid appearance. These are large knives that come in at 5 1/4 closed with a saber ground blade. I am excited about finishing this one, comments welcome.

A Behemoth:eek:

Micartas can really look superb on Traditional patterns, very nice to see an unusual type like this. That is some blade on it:thumbup:

When originally asked to scale this knife in yellow Micarta I was on the fence but this stuff has that dark yellow, almost aged appearance that I find very attractive.

What a great thread! Wish I had something to display. Someday soon for sure.

I have voted this thread the very highest rating quality!. I would encourage others to do the same if they feel likewise

Ken, i'm a fan of the large Swell-Center Hunter pattern and the yellow Micarta actually suits it as well as the classy Ebony.
all of us want everyone of the knives you make.

The cut swedge, going all the way back to the bolster, and the abbreviated sabre grind are great touches on a beautiful blade, and I agree completely on the yellow being nicely antique looking. It all harks back to the golden years of cutlery (pun intended!)!:D
Nicely proportioned - I am wayyyy jealous of the lucky customer:rolleyes:!!

At the other end of the spectrum, in size and presence, is this wonderful EDC I just received from Ken! At 3 1/2", and in D-2 steel, it definitely floats my boat!!
In formal Black and Blue G-10, linerless but sturdy, I carried it to the opera last night, ("The Marriage of Figaro" - trying to relearn Italian!). It was barely noticeable in my pocket, yet I didn't in any way feel underbladed. Completely out of place in the opera crowd (I'm a blue collar kind of guy), I concealed it it my hand, like a talisman against snobbery, as I laughed my butt off at a silly but interesting story on stage.
This knife is so pleasing to carry, there really is no excuse for not having it with you, except for airline regulations, and MAYBE taking a shower!!:D
Here's the beautifully fitted little tough guy;

Ken, that blade is to die for; just perfection, like all your blades. You have the eye of a master. And who doesn't love the yellow micarta. That old coke bottle pattern has real charm as well. If you think I'm trying to butter you up, you're right!!!:D

Ken, I love the looks of that one. That yellow paper micarta really has the kind of classic period charisma that complements the big swell center pattern, imho.

And, as you know, I'm kinda partial to the yellow ones myself, like my Erickson 3.5 EDC in yellow g10 and flat ground D2 which has been in my pocket or hand every minute since it arrived this week. I really like it, and it cuts like crazy.

Some awesome knives being displayed!!! Congrats to all on their fine taste and (of course) to Ken for making it possible!:thumbup:

Hope this thread keeps going for at least another 3-4 months. then i will show off my new K.Erickson knife; something just a little different that makes it a whole lot different, like looking in the mirror ! can ya guess ? clues are all in BF but you'd have to be a wide ranging reader to have seen them.

Charlie, can you believe how the flat ground D2 performs on these EDC's Ken just made?

I was sittin' out on the deck yesterday evening, and a grey squirrel was considering whether or not to raid my birdfeader with me out there; well, I took out my new yellow Erickson, and Mr. furytail just stood up on the fencepost he'd been sittin' on, took off his skin like a pair of Carhartt coveralls, and said "hell, you win Ford, just don't get the air rifle out next time I'm out in my briefs!"

I'm jus' sayin'...;)

LOL!

Ford, can I have Mr. Furrytail's furry tail please? I can tie quite a few flies with that tail since he won't be needing it no more. Just sayin'.
