Knives and Drinks!

A little sendoff for the end of summer. I enjoyed my last hefe-weizen for the year. ❤️

I have been on a wheat kick lately (had few Paulaners last weekend). For me wheat starts to taste better when the cold weather starts to arrive. Maybe because it's thicker or as we say "foodier"? Who knows..

Could be. There is definitely a texture and experience beyond just taste.

The Paulaner is decent but not my favorite. Franziskaner is probably the one I've had most over the years. Franziskaner makes a dunkel version (dark wheat) that I rather enjoy. Maybe try that for cooler weather?

Yea, I am familiar with those.. I’ve had quite a few German beers in my life. 😅 It’s just that I love all beers and try them that you tend to have seasons when some styles are left out for a while.

Maybe I'm just old. I've literally had over 2,000 different beers at this point in life. (I spent many years in a local club that kept track of the number.) I like most of them and I don't have hard rules or anything. For instance, any time is right for a Guinness! 😜

Some just seem to connect with seasons for me. Pilsener and hefe-weizen are summer staples. Lambics, sour ales, and fruited affairs like Lindemans Framboise have a special place on picnics in the spring and summertime. With autumn, I feel the call of malt. This is when I also think of cider and smokey rauchbier. Then in winter, I like the warmth of a stronger Belgian Ale.

Sadly, one of my least favorite styles includes the radically hopped American IPAs that remain dominant. I'm good with floral hops, okay with piney hops, and less so when they deliver a grapefruit note. The overall intensity matters for the latter two. I'm happy with the hop level of an English Bitter or even an Extra Special Bitter. I just feel like a cranky old man in the modern American beer market... Then again, I 'm also a die-hard DA/SA guy who feels the same way about the current CCW market.

Yea, IPAs seem to divide people. I don’t mind hoppy and when they started to become a thing I was already drinking them. For a long time I thought the hoppier the better. Now it has become kind of old and I prefer ”lower” hops like you mentioned. Good hoppy pilsner always hits the spot for me!
Gladly there are lots of beer types that you can switch to when you feel like it. :)

The drink is bourbon. Clyde May's 5yr Single Barrel @102 proof (local shop barrel pick).
The knife is one of those letter names. CRKT, I think. No, wait, that doesn't seem right. I've seen them called CREWK; but that seems like too many letters. There's an R on it, and it says something about Idaho on one side. Hell, I don't remember - I found it in some WV shop... thought it looked nice & bought it.
