Lets talk GEC!

That is just an amazing looking knife.

Well they've posted the Ebony #35 B&S... I can't help but feel like that would have been a sweet knife sans fork and comb. I can't believe I have to say that series of words... that knife would be sweet if it didn't have a fork or comb. :p

I'm sure someone's going to love it.
I love ebony, and I can see a way to cut/grind the fork into a more typical caplifter, but I just can't figure out what to do about the comb.

Totally agree. The nice looks of the knife only reinforce for me how much of a missed opportunity it is.

I am going camping tonight and would love to put a GEC stockman at the top of my list of useful items to have on my person. As it is, that place will go to a cadet or a Schrade 897UH. The only GECs I will take will be a few jacks to photograph. It’s a real shame.

(BTW I put Bill Howard’s obsession with the #66 in the same category - of GEC not listening)

If all you wanted was a stockman why didn't you take advantage of the Dixies that have been around for a year and a half? I bought this one 2 weeks ago.

Fair point. I have a couple of the 81s though.

Plus a fair few of the 66. I foolishly sold a 66 slim when I was first getting into GEC.

This comparison between an 81 and a similar Queen highlights what I am referring to - similar amount of blade but in a nice slimmed down package.

The appeal of the #35 is that it is very pocketable. (full credit to GEC for making it btw) I like and carry the Schrade and the cadet. I favour small and useful knives, they just suit my needs best.

I'd love to see another run of the 68 pattern and would gladly pay a premium for some nice ones with a bail. Also would like to see that mini 09 pattern come around with some fancy embellishments. And don't forget that beautiful 89 melon tester. LOL, dreams are nice.

I also recently picked up a S&M premium stockman from the heritage series at a decent price. It is very nice a quite useful to carry. If you can find one of thoses.

I just bought this H10 to replace a 72 lockback I sold.

Let me say, don't sleep on this pattern. Like so many old knife designs, it's WAY more ergonomic than it looks.

I worried the large ricasso would put my hand too far away from the edge, but as you can see, it kind of gets swallowed up in the hand flesh that swells past the guard when gripped.

The balance point is just where you'd want it. It's very nimble. I keep wanting to throw it, because it feels like it would excel at that.

The sheath is really well done, and very attractive. Only nitpick is, the snap rubs against the CNC ridges every time the knife is drawn, making a high-pitched zeeeeeeep! noise, and leaving a trail of scratches on the pile side.

The blade is VERY thin behind the edge, though it thickens slightly at the tip and the base, causing the bevel to widen, narrow, and widen again. But the thickest part of the edge is still thinner than most.

It feels lovely, looks better in person than in photos, and as a sharpener, may I say bravo to the heat treatment, even by GEC standards. This thing whittles whittled hairs. It's burrowing sharp. Very crisp, loses the burr like a spy shaking a tail.

Get one of these while you still can. You won't regret it.

Since no more SFO's, hence no more 77 Yankee and 15 TC Barlow, I wonder if GEC would make a new barlow in another pattern?

I hope your assumption on them not making any 77 or 15 / TC barlows while not doing SFOs is correct, and I hope they will make another pattern. Or at least make a barlow on one of their current patterns. I know it won't happen, but I'd like to see a Farm & Field barlow.
