I sent my XM-18 back to josh for a regrind. I am mad at myself for not just having him do the regrind the first time. I didn't realize how think the cutting edge on a spanto really is. It doesn't cut very well IMO. Well the regrind fixed all of that. I am military and this knife gets used. I didn't buy it to look at it (though it is nice to look at), I bought it because I needed a knife that would hold up in the field and not run on bearings. Bearings are a no no for me in the field.
Anyway...Josh is a master at his craft. This knife is very sharp. With what I do, a knife that doesn't cut well won't do me much good. Now I have a knife that has the legendary Hinderer durability and cuts well. I do occasionally have to do some light prying and I am not worried one bit that the reground spanto won't be able to handle it. It is still plenty think.
I also had Josh black out the knife. The first Hinderer I ever saw was a DLC coated xm-18 and instantly fell in love. I didn't feel like emptying my back account to get one either so this was the next best option. The coating turned out very nicely. I think this is how they should come from the ranch though DLC coated. It is a little tougher than cerakote.
Above all of Josh incredible work is his customer service. His communication is top notch and he really put me at ease with sending the most expensive knife I own to a complete stranger. My emails were answered very quickly including on Sunday's. He also went out of his way to make sure I had the knife back in my hands before my next deployment. That alone speaks louder than anything to me.
Long story short: Josh's work is incredible and his communication leaves nothing to be desired. IMO the regrind is a must for all XMs. Thank you Josh.
Please forgive my photography skills or lack there of. The nice photo on the regrind is Josh's photo. The assembled knife is the final product.
Thanks my friend, be safe on your deployment!!
