Pictures here! On the Bench

I mounted the carbide platen face I bought from RD_knives RD_knives today, and holy fucking shit is it an improvement! Especially at the edge of the belt, the feel and the control over stock removal even for profiling was noticeably better than the worn and chipped glass platen face I've been using since I got my grinder.

Got yoko yoko 's Governator profiled and pin holes punched, so really just some drilling and then into the oven.

not to much left to do with this guy, but I'm gonna hold off on shaping the handle until I'm in the right mood and once I have my shop put back together. Moving some stuff around, dialing things in a bit

I can't wait to see this one finished Lorien...... :)

Looks like that Cormorant is coming along nicely!
Someone is going to be really happy!
thank you! I sure hope SOMEONE will be happy!๐Ÿ˜‰

I've been pleased with it so far- usually I get to a point where I hate the knife I'm making, and then I finish it and like it fine. This one I've been stoked on since the beginning, and I hope that doesn't mean I hate it when it's done, lol!

I took the day today to ride my bike, eat cheesecake and generally have a chill b-day for myself. Tomorrow afternoon is time to get back in the shop and get the handle finished, then I'll get going on the sheath.

The Canada Post strike is going to delay shipping a little bit, I hope they negotiate a new and fair contract soon! Courier companies are a pain in the ass and much more expensive, but if push comes to shove, that's always and option.

Dude

Happy birthday!!!!!

I think I got the handle figured out for this sword, at least in the doodling stage. The plan is to slab a block of old ass micarta I've had for years, and mortise it to fit the tang. There is lots of other stuff to finish first, so it'll be awhile before this becomes something real. That, and I have to figure out how to do it lol. Story of my life

think I might be finished with the machine, but I might go back again at 400 grit.
After the last pic, I trued things up a bit with files, then went back to the machine today, finishing up at 320 grit. Probably all hand work from here but we'll see.

Lorien Lorien except for the cool factor and to show off the work on the tang, what's the purpose of the skeleton scales on a fixer?

the idea originally came about as a way to store cordage, but once I made one I realized how much weight can be saved and that I could use thicker material and still have nice balance. It feels pretty unique in hand, the handle kind of latches on. The idea was that this design would be made via cnc and could be adapted for tether carry, but now that I've begun to use thicker scales it's definitely in the pocket knife category. Also, I like the way it looks :)
