Replacing your boot laces with 550 cord...

Well since the threads breathing again and I wasn't here for the orginal run ...

A spare pair of quality boot laces are always in my pack ... I've tried 550 didn't work well hard to keep tied as others have stated ... even hard to thread through eyelets ...

I also carry bank line along with 550 for cordage it's much easier to tie it can be plenty strong I carry 300lbs ... it ties easily and holds great ... its cheaper and lighter and less bulk then 550 ... and in a pinch it worked far better then 550 ...

but I learned a spare set of a good quality boot laces are a must for my pack ... hard to walk out in rough terrian when you have blisters from a boot slipping around.

Guys, you have to shoot these threads in the head and destroy their brain matter or they just come back to life.

That said I think these shoe laces are the coolest replacement laces. Handcuff key.

ALL my footwear has paracord laces. One good trick is to soak it in melted wax first. Get a rag and wipe the length down to remove excess. There is enough wax impregnated in the cord to make it hold knots/bowties better .

I have an old pair of all leather /gortex mountain light hiker copies from Cabelas that have had paracord laces for probably 10 years (the boots are 15 years old). The laces are still solid.

As others have said, paracord is harder to keep tied than regular laces (other than crappy leather laces).

The original laces were superior from that standpoint. And of course the laces on my newer Danner mountain light II hikers stays tied much better.
