Shirogorov sucks right?

All rhetoric and linguistic, presuppositional analysis aside...

I absolutely love my recently purchased F 95T SRBS in S90v which is my EDC.

Used it meaningfully for the first time last week at a Single Malt Scotch Whisky tasting, prepping rock Oysters in the shell which were duly filled with a tasty Kilchoman single cask enjoyed au natural.

...and am just about to purchase my second Shirogorov namely a 111 Carbon Fibre in 390M.

If like me you appreciate fine craftsmanship and can afford it "high end carry" isn't a big deal.

Those are some fantastic knives you got there! And especially, congrats on the 111 coming in...that thing looks awesome!

Just wanted to say thanks for bringing this back on topic.

And OP - the tongue in cheek nature of your original post was quite clear, and also entertaining. Sorry you had to be subjected to a page worth of troll accusations and semantic discussions before the meaningful responses started coming in...it's a bit of a bummer to see how quick people have been to turn things negative around here lately...

I don't have a picture of my own Shiro to show you, so I humbly present this page full of plenty more reasons why you absolutely shouldn't buy yourself a nice new Russian knife: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1188123-Blade-Show-2014-Shirogorov-knives

OP--no don't even start thinking about having one.

Started with Shiro, went on to have other productions, full customs and some special editions and "hard to come by" stuff.
Now whenever I sell/ trade it's always only the others.. somehow the blade cabinet is just swimming with those bear heads..

I sold off customs and those "hard to get" to buy more Shiros.. Safe queens? Yea some of them I have not used but the rest gets quite a work out ... no, not just those letter opening in the office or slicing up a box or 2

Main carry on most days is my F95... Form follows function in terms of blade length, shape and grind (pretty much just flat).. best combo to get jobs done for the usual kind of things I encounter when using a knife. Easy to sharpen at home or in the field. Other additional carry is a machete on weekends.

My pair of 111 are the champs... the washer one has that "I can't believe its not bearing" feel
The other MRBS one..makes me wonder if one fine day the bearings might just fly out from flipping out so bloody fast :)

I think the price is high, but the quality seems very high as well. If you hate frame-locks, you can still find Shirogorov Tabargans with Benchmade-style Axis-locks, and they usually sell for less. From Russia With Knives has them for sale occasionally, and they show up on eBay. I love the Shirogorov style and profile... very nice blades, and preferable to any of the similarly priced N. American midtechs, IMO.

Ooh! A rare breed! Shiro USER. Happen to have a user with the Vanax steel? How's it hold up?

I don't have any safe queens. Hell, I don't really even have a safe to speak of.

Just never quite get the whole "BNIB, mint, never carried, never sharpened" thing. My definition of safe queens are just that they are less handled... Every knife must be used at some point.

Haven't come across a Vanax in the kind of config I like... this one here is an S90V. Edge is a bit gritty even with all the stropping after sharpening. Miss the one I traded away... Shiro's Elmax is really quite something I must say.

Only "bad thing" I can think of is- I'll never want to pop open and field clean the bearing Shiros.

Just ordering one of the Edge Pro Professional models as my Shiro came without much of an edge so can't wait to home that S90V to perfection.

By comparison the SOCOM Elites I just received are razor sharp right out of the box...seriously.

if you have not used the apex yet I would practice on a few junky kitchen knives before you try sharpening a new shiro. And when you do go to sharpen the shiro I HIGHLY recommend taping the blade off with some blue masking tape. The slough from sharpening can cause nasty scratches in the finish. And its good armor if you slip with a stone.

Thanks mate, really appreciate the advice.

no problem. When I got my apex the first knife I sharpened was a dual edge microtech scarab and destroyed the blade. I had to send it to reese weiland to have him straighten it out. It was a good $300 mistake, lol.

i have the Shirogorov F3 with CF scales, double row roller bearing, anodizing, and S30V blade. it is a dream knife, and on place 2 of my most precious knives. on number one is my DDW (custom knife from dutch knife maker Dirk de Wit). on 3 is my shirogorov hati with black g10 and washers, but flips as if it is on bearings. You will not go bad on a shirogorov.

Seriously? Someone please tell me that they're not any better than a Schrade.

Had the pleasure recently of handling a 111. It's bigger than I like, but man was it nice to handle. I've been browsing and have sort of fallen in love with the F3.

I'm getting married in October and we were talking about buying ourselves wedding presents. She wants a handbag and balisong(gotta love it!) This could very well be mine, unless of course you all can talk me out of buying a $1000 flipper... So they do suck, right?

I wish I could talk you out of it, but I would be doing you a disservice. My Shiro f3 is probably my favorite knife, and IMO the best of the Shiros. I have tried the Hati, 95t, F3, and 111. The texturing on the f3 is incredible, as well as the ergonomics. The Hati and 95 both have flatter scales while the f3 has perfectly sculpted ones that seem to fill my hand better. I also love the texturing on the scales. The fit and finish is fantastic on all of them, along with an amazing blade grind. Oh and how can I forget the silky smooth lightning fast action! I think you will get plenty of use out of it. Every time I go to a friend or relatives house I inevitably end up in the kitchen, instead of using their dull kitchen knives I pull out my Shiro. Now if I think there is even a chance that I will end up cooking outside my kitchen I make sure to have a Shiro in my pocket.

Also, you can find Shiro's for much less than $1000, I have even paid less than $500 you just have to be patient. A CF f3 sold on the exchange the other day for $550. I think the price on them is starting to come down a bit.

Good luck on your search and congrats on the wedding.

I don't believe there are any knives better designed (debatable), or better machined or built (not debatable). That said, I sold my Shiro (CF Hati) because it was just too fancy to use. I mean the things are just crazy gorgeous. Also if I'm gonna use and potentially d!ck up a knife I feel more comfortable sending it to a U.S. manufacturer for refurb/repair. I sold my Hati with the specific intention to buy a Hinderer XM-18... Then, of course, a Kimber I couldn't pass up came along... Haha. I have been carrying a Hinderer XM-18 for a few months now and honestly can hardly fault it. If a 111 or an F3 were $4-500 I would definitely buy one without hesitation. Being $1000, they are off the radar.

It's like the difference between dating a Supermodel, or the girl next door.

Sometimes in life you realise you just gotta get your game on and go for gold.

Supercar, or Prius ?...[emoji23][emoji109]

Not debatable? How come?

I really, really like that light blue. Was looking for an Orange one, but if I catch one like that for sale I'm sure I can "settle" for it.

I wanted a CF I "settled" for the light blue one and I'm glad I did. Now that I have seen them both together I prefer the light blue g10. The texture on it is amazing and I have grown really fond of the color as well. Regardless of the color you end up getting I'm sure you will be satisfied. Good luck hunting!

this is mine, have it with me today. the blue anodizing with the carbon fiber is just the best combination. If you'll get the chance to buy a F3 and you have the money, don't hesitate!

"no frame lock"
Get a slip joint or back lock. Much less money, more sheeple friendly, too. (and if you lose it, you can replace it without taking out a second mortgage on the house.)
