Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

Oh hell yeah- thanks for the demonstration!
Makes perfect sense.

I learned something new today, and I appreciate it.
This is not as well known as you would think. I'm sure there are other companies cutting their knives against the grain. If its a smaller knife, or a simple steel like 5160 that is rolled fewer times, the effect is not as pronounced. But if its a long knife made from a PM supersteel, you will have a hell of a time getting it straight and they will snap in a vice with ease when bent.

Can someone help me out here? the knives are always cut orthogonal to the plane of the material, so the cut itself is perpendicular to the direction of the roll, regardless of knife orientation.

I'm guessing that means that the knife orientation, butt to tip, in line with the rolling direction is the correct orientation to lay the knife out in?

... so you mean to tell me Guy messed up some of his own knives?
... that he's to blame?
... I don't know how to land this joke, but I feel like there's enough creativity here to do it.
blanks cut in the wrong direction also significantly lowers durability.
for example, transverse toughness of CPM-3V is only about 25% of its longitutinal toughness.
Some steel have less of a disparity, but generally, it is better to cut the blanks along the grain.

Here is a quick visualization of why grain direction matter. Here the folds in the paper represent grain lines/ rolling direction. You can see one set of knives is cut with the direction of the grain lines, the other, is cut against them, crossing the grain lines.

As you can see, the blank that is cut with the grain is flat, the one that is cut against the grain looks like a crinkle cut fry.

Perfect visualization. Thank you.

Good stuff here. Learned something today.

Guy is a piece of excrement. Why not blame the customers who gave him money in good faith so he could steal it.

At anytime in the last 10 years if Guy would have just sat down and made knives this whole disaster would have been avoided.

The 1 consistent thing through all this is Guys failure to deliver on his promises and obligations.
He has blamed the customers in the past. Saying why would you send money to a company with so many complaints and why don't you ask for a refund. They knew the knives were not going to get made. They would send you emails telling you they are about to rap up your order. What about the 4 months to get your new knife. They came up with lies for everything.

I am sure people in Survive FB private page is full of chatter. They are most likely selling those knives for a serious markup. I wonder now if those crosscut blanks were the reason for 2nds? I really hope Guy ends up in the County Blues.

That is perpendicular to the rolling direction.
Thanks for your clarification.
Kind of ironic, the Guy who pays so much attention to detail that most knives are trash to him(he said about rieff knives and WTG), cuts blanks in the wrong way.

Good gravy. I don’t know how you’ve come to know this, but I believe it. If we think people with preorders are getting screwed, the loan companies are about to inherit a bunch of knife parts worth of cash for their investment.

The only reason S!K persisted so long was because Guy was one hell of a conman. Clearly very little substance, but he could spin anything.
Fixed that for you.

I am glad that Guy at Conblades is gone. Nobody needs to send him $ for any reason. I for one hope the PA AG takes his actions seriously and gives him some Magnacut Handcuffs. I asked him to right the wrong he did me before and his reply was to preorder a blade because it would only take months to get. I heard the lies before and even when there was a chance he send something out that was ready I still didn't believe him. The man lies with every update in writing or video. Hey Guy if you read this remember that I said I would not stop telling people of you scams and you told me go ahead. I was one of the 1st 10 people who called the AG and made a report on you to the BBB. Everyone if you had emails from him and you were defrauded call the AG in PA and get onboard. Don't let this vaporware selling scumbag get away with years of fraudulent activity.

I just tried looking up more info yesterday, so it’s coincidental that you posted. Couldn’t find anything new.

Guy is probably in Indonesia by now cage fighting with a bandanna on his head Rambo Style.
"No, Seefart, you owe Triad, you stop fighting when we say you do!"

How long can a business survive without cash flow? The longer they take to make the knives already paid for results in a lower profit margin per knife and probably leads to a loss when finally produced.

After all these years if Survive! can't accurately forecast how long it'll take to produce everything on their plate they're incompetent and or thieves. Either way they shouldn't be allowed to take peoples money to finance a poorly run Ponzi scheme.
That’s their whole business model- they take people’s money and never produce anything. They just make “update” videos with no actual updates, just some sob story about a dog dying or grandma’s health issues or a problem with some material, insert a few scenes of a stack of unfinished stock in a shop that looks like it’s never been used and viola!- people keep sending them money.

John now trying to make his own company Heavy Set Knives appearing in a Survive shirt in today's YouTube short, which begs the question I thought the guy was disconnected from Guy, but maybe not!
