The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

Just waiting for the supplies to come in, but tomorrow I will be attempting to remove the factory anodization from my CDX. Slightly nervous as it's the first time I've done anything like this, but we'll see how it goes. I'd much prefer the clean titanium to the slight gray-ish blue-ish it's carrying right now. One of my buddies has already done this to his own CDX and I love the final look he got - so we'll see if I'm able to replicate that.

I'm going to be doing a whink bath, and then possibly some soft wheel polishing using a dremel depending on what the finish looks like. If I'm not happy after that I might end up sending it off to someone to do a light blast - but we shall see! hopefully I'm happy straight out of the gate with the ano removed but that's part of the fun I suppose.

Figured a last shot with it's current look was only appropriate - and I'll be sure to get some after shots once completed.

Have you considered trying this on an old knife first?

Yeah definitely - unfortunately I just dont have anything anodized in my collection to try on, other than the CDX - I tend to prefer just blasted handles so that's what I've gravitated toward. I'm still poking around to see if I maybe have a tag or bead or something that is anodized that I could try real quick. Otherwise I'm thinking I'll do the clip first and just be super careful with it - sticking to very quick dunks in the whink and then neutralizing - repeat as necessary. If I over-do the clip a bit I wont be too broken up about it.

Was a quick trip and a nice change. The handle texture is noticeably different -

Definitely not a huge change - but I think the below highlights the difference - the whink did not get all the way down in the base of the backspacer pin hole - so you can see the blue ano remains. The difference in the blue against the now flat titanium color is really noticeable side-by-side. I will most likely be pulling this back apart to do a slight polish to the outer surfaces - this should help improve the surface finish so it feels a bit better in hand - but I'm super happy to get that little bit of a blue tint gone. The final result may end up being a light polish and then blasting it lightly for texture/smoothing - but we will see! So far, so good.

Pompous Pompous you crazy bas#ard 😎🍻

I think if you polish that up a little bit it’s gonna look great. The process looks like it left it a bit cloudy?

Visually it honestly looks fine in person - the feeling in hand is... bizarre. The word that came to mind was "spongey" but thats not quite right. Just doesnt feel right when we're so used to handling blasted, stonewashed, or burnished titanium scales.

Definitely think the polish will help - my buddy who has done this before mentioned he did a polishing progression and then light blasting which really helped to blend everything together. I'm going to go with a light polish and see how that looks/feels and then may send it to him for an assist if I cant get it quite perfect myself.

That being said I absolutely nailed the Hi-Slip moly grease on this re-assembly so the action is crispier than ever - which I'm loving!

Been hunting for one of these for a while...very nice!

Finally a new reasonably priced model with attractive micarta scales:

More Ursus knives?! Isn’t it apparent to them that the Quantum Ursus doesn’t sell that well with stock left over from just about every single variant they’ve made so far?

I’d say the only thing intriguing about this release is the hardware isn’t single sided and it comes with a tool now for easy takedown?

We'll see about the sales 🙃 AFAIK the tool is provided as a bonus for the 1st batch, but the new hardware is hex bit compatible. The solution does not seem as elegant as CPS, but IMHO good enough for Ursus line.

I sincerely hope that Q95 will be more comfortable to carry, than F3.

The Q95 looks.. interesting. The idea of keeping proprietary hardware and "solving it" by putting - of all things - Hex compatible hardware on the other side is very.... strange. I also find the decision to include the tool as a 1-off/first run perk to be just so bizarre. People have complained about the proprietary hardware forever. If they included a super cheap tool, and kept the hardware the same, the complaints would have been answered. So to both put more universally available hardware (but then pick hex??? why??) and ALSO include the tool feels like overkill.

Boggles the mind - but the model looks interesting. Hopefully it's a nice sweet spot of features and some folks really take to it.

The Hexagon pattern on this one is absolutely incredible. Really like this - easily the best milling pattern they've done in quite some time imo.

In other news, looks like Sergey is bringing a collaboration Sinkevich Pike Flipper to Blade show this year. Very exciting news - and hopefully that signals the Pike as the next Sinkevich collaboration knife. The Pike is an incredible design and I've been lucky enough to handle a few of the customs from US shows over the last few years - really feels fantastic in hand. Curious what touches Sergey will add to put his touch on it - although with many of the collabs lately there has been less of Sergey's input and more of the Sinkevich design with Shiro finishing/production.

Images below of Dmitry's customs for anyone not familiar with the design:

I have a couple of guys from the Shiro group on FB going to both booths to get pictures and video so hopefully we can see what they are cooking up as it relates to the Pike. As someone that collects the older collabs I’m really excited about this one as it reminds me of the Tetra and Pero but with a ton of refinement. My hope is that this one get into the Custom Division this summer after Blade so that we can start to see some CD models available before the end of the year…assuming they follow the timeline that happened with the Quantum, that could mean serial production as early as March 2026.
