I am missing the Russian Dr. Death 🤯
Can turn you onto two Shiro Collab Dr. D's if you're interested...

To be pedantic for a moment, the Shiro that people now refer to as the NeOn is actually the NeOn Zero which is the updated version of the original NeOn which was smaller by approximately a quarter of an inch. In the photo below the top three are NeOns and the bottom three NeOn Zeroes

NOTE: I have sold all but one of the above NeOns

Ended up with four Neons coming in this week...two of my favorites that came in today.

It's been a minute and I just spent a little time catching up with the 3 or 4 pages I was behind. There's some interesting new stuff there and also some that's not so much IMHO. As I get deeper and more fully into retirement, my days of knife buying have dwindled to a crawl. I feel like any major purchases at this point would require significant sales, I'm still very well satisfied with my old school 8 Shiros and wouldn't want to part with any, and there aren't really any my high-value knives in my over-large accumulation that I'd want to part with.

Anyway, despite my absence here, I still often have a Shiro on me as they're all at least light users with some carried as work knives. The other day it was my blue ano'ed F95R...

...and yesterday it was the second oldest of the NeOn Lite line--a more basic version of the top knife pictured in CPP CPP 's post on the previous page--the NeOn UltraLite, open back on one stand-off with S30V steel. It's a great little blade IWB in b-ball shorts or for when more discreet carry is appropriate. BTW, as you may have noticed over the years, I do think of the NeOn as a small knife and the F95 as regular-sized. I'm obviously not afraid to be wrong. 😏

Funny, I think of the NeOn as the regular sized knife and the F3R (my two remaining Shiros) as large-the latter is almost the same size as my heavy-duty (for my needs) fixed blade the BRK Bravo. Neither of us is wrong of course

Does the new NeoniX mean the Neons and Neon Zero's will no longer be made as production/limited edition/special edition knives?
NeOn has left and come back 2-3 times before over the years. This does look like the next iteration of that DNA, but its still a long way from a serial production release. I wouldn't worry too much just yet - and there's a lot of evolution between the full custom and what eventually trickles down to production with streamlined milling/etc.

Besides, it's possible NeOn "classic" moves into an Ursus line to give them a smaller offering, while Neonix takes over for the premium offerings. I think that's what I would do if I were in charge of the product lines anyway. Gives an option for folks who prefer the old style while continuing to expand their lineup in the Ursus line - but the flagship production models would still be cutting edge.

The NeOn Ultra lite was my first love with Shiro before I learned that I preferred "regular-sized" knives. Such a great knife, such incredible action. Truly iconic.
