What a week... spent Monday-Wednesday afternoon getting heat and cold water back online. Decided to defer the hot water until the weather warms up again in another 10 days or so. We'll see if the heating company agrees...

Interesting, how would a metal cutting board work? Dedicated to use serrated knives only?

Metal works great if you like sharpening your knives, just like polished stone and glass.

"New" stove in tomorrow. Alcohol stove produced between 1904 -1913. Have had one on my list for sometime now.

Got home from work this morning . I started a pot of beef stew in the crockpot before I laid down. When I got up I added barley and lentils. I made a batch of biscuits to go with it. It was good on a cold day

I keep seeing ads for stainless & titanium boards, the claim is that there is enough difference in hardness not to harm knife edges.
It's easy for me to have doubts.

This may be true for high-hardness knives. Turns out wood works great, tho, and can sure look awesome.

We got a warm spell and are in the process of counting 3" of rain in 24hrs
So far just the usual self-clearing basement seepage...

Yup. -15f at 10pm when I went out to toss some stuff in the car that needs to stay cold.
About an inch of sugar snow over the concrete.
Was not comfortable on bare feet.

driving home, it was -4 at Fargo, +1 at the ND/SD border, and 17 at the SD/IA border.

Yow, what a swing!

We've been bouncing back and forth between 35F and 20F since after Thanksgiving, and then it suddenly went to 60 and 3" of rain. We're back below freezing again. Good ol' coastal New England (though trending warmer on balance than most of my life for sure).

Finished a pair of rough-finish leather tomahawk sheaths for a pair of H&B throwing hawks last night.
