Perhaps they could be considered as being non-identical twins? 😃

They do look quite similar but #3 has a slightly more pointy grind with a little less belly towards the tip and a little more of a drop point to the swedge then the grinds on #4. Mark's hand grinds often seem to be similar yet each one has their own uniqueness. :)

Think ima give this aebl 1 to my dip shitted 22yr old Cousin who recently out of left field joined the Army 💪🏼🇺🇸 Been in Indiana his entire life, bouts to deal with some brutal heat farther east during boot (NC?) before being shipped off to Alaska 😂 Considered a UF2 but think it maybe a bit too much knife for him 🤔
 
It’ll be perfect for him brother. I’ve done the same for my 3 sons in the military and like you said and to turn a phrase, it’ll be more than enough knife for him. Probably the best he ever has ! Good on you . 💯

Is your cousin doing infantry? If so, it'll be Ft. Benning, GA for boot (I think it's now Ft. Moore). 1000% do not ship that knife to him in boot/OSUT/AIT. The drills will confiscate it unless they all of the sudden like taking risks with privates. Anything that they confiscate runs that risk of being "misplaced..."

IMO the DEK is a better general-purpose knife in a modern military. The UF is REALLY long to try to integrate into a modern kit unless you are going to put it in/onto a ruck/truck. I like carrying my best knife on me, and my spare goes into the ruck or truck. Just some thoughts.
 
Ive not spoken to him personally yet but that sounds right. Will definitely give it to him in The flesh thank you for the heads up and your take on the better option. Hes gettin it now 💯👊👍

Eta- he didnt get that aebl dek1 he got a d3v one instead👍
