Thoughts on Tony Bose collaboration Case knives?

Just saw them on Lamnia of Finland. Case Cutlery Case Bose 2021 Collab Abalone Smooth HT Trapper 10772.
Price....897.34 USD. What makes this knife a 900 Dollar knife? It is still a production knife right?
The name “Tony Bose” and the company’s warranty.

I believe the Abalone covers tend to increase the cost a fair bit too.

Hello everyone,

My TB Lanny’s clip came in yesterday, but I sent it back in today so the retailer can go through the in-stock items and find one more suitable. Issues were bad centering and messed up uneven edge near choil.

As far as knife design, function, and lockup? Superb. But at $450 I want the edge even and centering somewhat decent.

I have had issues with case on their uneven grinds and centering before. Seems the TB line isn’t exempt. Definitely good to be able to check out photos of actual knife before buying.

That is a shame - I agree with your sentiments though. We, in general, expect perfection from a $100 GEC, I see no reason not to expect even more from a knife that costs several times that.

I have two Case/Bose knives on the way - one I am fairly confident will be excellent, the other I am a bit more anxious over.

I don't expect perfection in anything made by Man's hands. Excellence sure. Perfection? Never.

That's a fair point - I was mostly speaking to the expectations that we generally experience in the various collectors' threads. In short, there is a lot that doesn't bother me that might bother the next fellow and vice versa - perfection (excellence) to me might mean something different to another.

Which models are you getting Pàdruig Pàdruig Pàdruig Pàdruig ?

I have a Coffin Jack and Wharncliffe Trapper on the way - both in the Chestnut Bone.

I still have my WT in chestnut bone. I use it quite a bit for cutting things a knife is made for, as well as shaving hickory ramrods for my flintlock rifles and for other long rifle enthusiasts. It keeps a a pretty nice edge that lasts a while. I bought mine in person. ;) Blades are centered and the knife is well made:

The WT is one of my favorite patterns.

Your knife looks like mine Primble Primble . More pumpkin than chestnut.
Yep - it is. Not the chestnut like we used to see, but, I like the color of it. The fit and finish is very very good. The master dealer where I bought many of the Case-Bose collaboration knives had 8 of these in stock and he let me open every one to take my pick of the litter ! I appreciated that. For those of you who don't know this, the collaboration knives started as a genuine Tony Bose prototype knife that was entirely custom made by Tony. After he turned over the Prototype each year, Case would take many many precise measurements and computer program the wire cutting machine to produce each and every knife. Of course the assembly was done by hand, but, it was reported that only the most gifted craftsman at Case did the work. As far as color goes, Tony's chestnut dye was much prettier to my eye than the Case chestnut color. I always wished that they had used hammered scale pins on these knives. :)

This is a genuine Tony Bose WT for comparison purposes - not the prototype and not mine 😔 though:

Each year Tony would send Case a take apart knife. The first prototypes made by Case went to dealer Tony Foster. The inside liners were marked prototype. A prototype of every handle material for that year was made. Late last year a dealer bought all of those prototypes and sold all of them to Zac Brown, who was a friend of Tony’s.

I love the pattern, and the knife itself. It is heavy though!

If I carry mine say in my jeans watch pocket, it does not feel too heavy. I can feel that it is there (or not there, which is a good thing). If you drop it in a larger pocket, it might wear a hole in your britches in a few days ! 🤣 Your stag version is very handsome and sleek to my eye !:cool:

Are they noticeably heavier/chunkier than the eureka? The WT and eureka are the two that interest me most.
Sorry, I missed this one. Here's a couple of comparison shots. The stag adds additional thickness to my WT. I imagine other covers would make it slimmer. When laid on their spines the WT sits noticeably higher. My WT weighs 3.42 oz, the EJ is 3.02 oz. Not a huge difference. Both wonderful knives, but the EJ just seems to carry better than the WT, for me anyway. I also like the blades on the EJ. More useful for me in general.
