Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

Saw one of these in the background of one of Jack Blacks posts and thought I’d try one. For $15 it’s a great deal for a well made and practical tool
DaRn.☹️ I "knew" I should have gotten one when they were $6.⁹⁹ instead of postponing it for a "few" months now. ☹️
Oh well. That's "life", I suppose. I guess I don't really "need" it, anyway. 😇

I have one of those Marble's as above, marked "US". Strange as it is a copy of a British clasp knife, seems well made, just sorry they made it about 2/3 the size of the original knife. John

Thanks, Tom, for the cheerful, solid knife!
You’re welcome!
I will confess to having kept a couple of thrifty yellow knives in reserve for myself, though:

Nice pair of yellow knives, Tom!:thumbsup::cool:
Nice pair of yellow gloves, too. Are those the cut-resistant Kevlar kind??

Here's another of the thrifty knives Tom sent me recently. This one is a big Imperial stockman (4" closed) with sawcut plastic handles and clip-on bolsters. The blades seem quite heavy-duty, about 2 mm thick at the spine, but they taper down to thin edges. The blades also have "forge marks" on them. The tang stamp is the usual 1956-1988 "crowned" Imperial over PROV. R.I. with vertical USA to its right, but the shield shows the bent arm and raised hammer of Hammer Brand. The kind of stockman guys had back in my area when I was growing up.
(Beautiful weather today, maybe for the last time this fall, so I made time to take lots of knife pictures today. I'm gonna post several here, while they're fresh. That's unusual for me!)

Haha, no. My thriftyness extends to gloves as well I suppose - they are from the dollar store…
You can find some quite inexpensive Kevlar gloves online, but I don't know what cut-resistance level they have. (I wasn't aware until recently that there are 9 levels of cut-resistance IIRC).

I forgot Thrifty Thursday last week, and apparently so did everyone else! o_O
I'm not going to miss it on this fine Thanksgiving Day!
Here's a knife that J Just Tom. sent me recently that's my first knife made in Poland, according to the tang stamp; thanks again, Tom!:cool::cool:
Tom isn't 100% certain, but he thinks the knife might be made by Gerlach.
It's a very simple slipjoint design, just a stainless spearpoint blade in a 4" nylon-ish handle. I've used it frequently for food prep, and it slices like a champ!

A scout knife from Mikov in the Czech Republic, although the knife was apparently made pre-1993 since the tang is stamped CZECHOSLOVAKIA. Thanks to J Just Tom. for sending me this one recently! In addition to the tools shown in the pic, the knife has spear and pen blades.

I got that one in a lot of 4 of the same I purchased NOS. I really like them. I think the blades are carbon steel, which would make them a little unusual for “Swiss Army” style knives, and more to my liking. I have the one I sharpened up for myself in hand right now, another I plan to keep with my camping gear to give away if the opportunity presents itself, and the last one has problems with the tools rubbing and being hard to open - I may turn it into a penknife at some point.

I hadn't even considered that the blades might be carbon steel; thanks for the heads up. I know what knife I'll be using Friday morning to cut my apple, clementine, and grapes for my breakfast "oatmeal casserole". I might even have some leftover chicken I could cut up to toss in the bowl.
