Traditional French Fry day

Will Will Power Will Power , that Broom wood you posted is calling to me. Right size, 10.5cm I believe, reasonably priced and looks good. It looks more practical than the capuchadou I’ve been lusting over. For knife content, my trusty no. 8.View attachment 2327939

I really like the look of that Opinel with a worn handle finish. Makes me think I need to carry and use mine more.

Another 12cm, scales are made from ebony.

I am carrying this reborn Laguiole today, in honor of my youngest son's birthday!
He is 42, with two red-haired boys 2 and 6!!
The old Rossignol was refurbished and handled by Jerome Latreille, and gifted to me from Jean-Marc for MY birthday 2 weeks ago!!
Thanks Âchillepattada Âchillepattada !!!
The big chunk of Navajo Turquoise is protection and luck for all of us!!Jerome refurbish 1.jpgJerome refurbish 2.jpg

How are you liking those laguioles from Du Barry?
The wooden one is functional, good quality but not "polished" in finish, everything works and the blade is designed so that it opens easily but feels nearly like it has a lock when you try to close it (possibly the corkscrew tool makes the backspring shorter and overall stiffer in action on this model). It is the basic model and cheap for what you get on it. The wood looks a lot nicer than I expected. Cuts well :) I am impressed that they manage to fit the blade and the awl next to each other without them rubbing (the blade is not centered so as to allow space for the awl)

The mammoth molar one has a much more "polished" feel to it and much easier action. They put a video of it on their facebook page a few weeks ago. Definitely eye candy, which is the reason you will get these handle material really. We had a long exchange of emails on what I wanted, selection of materials, scrolling and so on.

What size is that knife Charlie? I received my own nightingale yesterday and while I adore the lines of its blade I find it a bit small at 10cm.

I have a full handled knife from Du Barry with juniper covers. I like how thin they grind their blades.

At 11cm, I find it very good!!

I think 11 cm is my sweet spot for a regular carrying laguiole. 12 cm is better for using, but I find it a smidge long in the pocket.

Strange, a 10 cm laguiole is the same size as most other knives I prefer like my GEC #74 or my waynorth lambsfoot. But when it comes to laguioles, 10 cm is just not enough and might as well be a peanut.

😂

Enclosed is a Laguiole model from the early 1900s marked "Rossignol".
It features a folding corkscrew and spike and has a neat blade stamp showing a parasol and bird as trademarks of Rossignol.

Rossignol was the specialised brand for Laguiole of Parapluie à l'Epreuve (later Thérias group). They rarely show both signs.

I just realized my Rossignol has both the nightingale and the umbrella!
