Edit: I like this one as one I can afford it and I couldn’t quite afford the Le 125 by the lady knife maker. I was working with someone here to get one but it didn’t work out, which is ok as I found some more French patterns and collected a few, I do have to credit Stefan Schmalhaus videos wirh really peaking my interest in French cutlery. The videoss were stylish and yet informative and entertaining.

Wednesday evening I returned from my "road trip" through France. Some of you may have already noticed that I'm crazy about true service trees and wild service trees, also known as chequers. This crazy passion will be reflected in the next posts ;)!

This time I wasn't traveling alone, but with two young colleagues, both of whom are also passionate service tree enthusiasts. On the way to Thiers, we made two detours to see some special specimens. One in Burgundy and one in the Département de l'Ain. Of course, I won't deprive you of this trees.........

Outside the small hamlet of Mavilly-Mandelot stands a mighty service tree, as far as I know the strongest specimen in France.

But now back to French folders and "Coutellia." This year was undoubtedly a "grand cru," an excellent vintage! This applies both to the number of international exhibitors and the high quality of the masterpieces on offer. This year's "Concours" once again exceeded our wildest expectations. But I'll come back to that later.

Unfortunately, I only took a few photos. If you want to get your hands on beautiful pieces, you now have to queue up an hour before the doors open. Once you're inside, you shouldn't hesitate too long... for example, I was at Romain Alvarez's table seven minutes after the opening, and there was only one knife left.

After I had spent all my money, the first thing on the agenda was countless conversations with fellow knifemakers and collectors, so it turns out I brought back more knives than usable photos.

Thank goodness my friend Jean-Paul Daire gave me permission to share his photos with you. They are signed with "©JPD." "Mille Mercis JiPé"!!!!!

I'll start with his pictures from the "World Cup du Damas":
