Tyrant Bowie Prototype Run- Z Tuff

Hi Hunter, not sure if I missed this; will the blades be marked as either 3v or ztuff somewhere on the blade or handle?
Thanks!
The blade steel will be lasered on the blade, probably in the same spot as the Fell Beast.

We also have the steel lasered under the scales so I don't get them mixed up myself during production.

A couple of questions, what are you leaning toward on a black/gold blade ? Will it be gold flats and the rest black, or make it look similar to the handle ?
How many of the prototype black/gold handles do you have ?

Ill be offering two coating options, black cerakote, or gold cerakote. The entire blade will be coated in one solid color

I only have one pair of the prototype gold carbon fiber scales. I won't be able to offer that material because our milling processes rips out some of the tiny carbon fiber shreds and creates surface imperfections.

Also, I think the gold inlayed version we went with looks better in person. Its a very striking material. Ill be using lots of this stuff in the long run.

Is this angle optimal for such a heavy blade as the Tyrant?
20 won't be more durable?

Not to but in, but it's easier for the buyer to "blunt" the edge to a more obtuse angle, than it is for You to go sharper/more acute.

He's giving you a Very strong, sharp edge.
If your requirements and needs are cutting rebar, trucks, and cinder blocks.....it Should be easy for you to swipe a few passes on that edge.

But otherwise 18* is crazy durable

*In my opinion

Yeah, that makes total sense. I didn’t even think about it from the perspective that regrinding a blade from 20 to 18 degrees is harder than going from 18 to 20 degrees.!
I just often see blades of this size, usually with 20-22 degrees on the side
I think this is a good sign because the person has confidence in steel.
It's not often that a blade of this size and weight can withstand 18 degrees

Thanks for the update, I really don’t have a clue what the gold will look like, but since you like it, there’s no doubt I’ll like it. Where do I sign up for the gold cerakote ?

I'm getting a batch coated this week so Ill have pictures of the gold cerakote and you guys can see a finished blade before committing.
Did you do the same on the prototype? If yes, it’s great - very stable.

Yes sir! Glad to hear your edge is holding up well!

Ive done loads of testing now and these edges are holding up great. Im taking them down to about .02 before sharpening and running 18DPS. Now, I am doing all this free hand, so there may be some slight variation, but im incredibly happy with the edge holding of the prototype batch Ive been testing for the last 4 months.

The bowie that I cut 200 linear feet of cardboard with.... I use it in my kitchen and as my utility knife literally every day and STILL havent sharpened it. It still cuts.

This is why I love big blades. You are basically getting the same cutting edge as 2-3 smaller to mid sized knifes.
