It's not what I'm missing that keeps me buying knives. It's what I want after going through the knife porn pics here and lusting after something someone has posted, that I convince myself I need one of those. Which isn't all that difficult.

Right now I'm trying to decide about fixing and or modifying my TSF Beast. It has a chip in it, near the tip. Its beyond my sharpening ability. I had planned to sell the knife. But now I'm thinking, well what if I got the blade reground thinner and also have clip screw holes tapped further back on the handle.

I've also been considering a Pena X-series, Apache or Raptor.

I miss these contoured, grooved burlap Micarta scales. Best feel in an aftermarket scale. I tracked them to having been sold by a place in Texas but they've never replied when I've asked about them to find more.

I really want another 7ish inch blade grunt knife. I've been wanting to make a Randall 14 Attack clone for a long time, since I saw Charlie Mike get one made. I'm a real fan of that partial full tang construction with the machined slot micarta handle of that knife. Might be my next knife project.

You enabler. I'm currently sending my Beast into Tom Krein to have the chip sharpened out, and quoting the other mods. The thing is, those mods would make it a keeper. I can hear my wallet complaining now. I figure a little indulgence before I have the shoulder replacement. Appointment for the consult/scheduling is in 2 weeks. Ay carumba!

I used to buy knives for specific purposes, but sadly these days, those purposes are few, and I have way more knives than I'll ever be able to use (much less use to the point of dullness!) in this lifetime. So, I stopped lying to myself some time ago. Any knife I buy these days, it's merely because I want it. I haven't had much time in the past year or two for camping type outings, and my daily uses would primarily be eating, food prep, package/envelope opening, and thread snipping, which of course could be handled by nearly any knife.

That said, I have specific knives for uses that I don't currently have, to be fair. Zombie killin', chopping, animal processing, wood carving, self defense, beach days, and so on. The good thing about knives is that they don't have an expiration date and don't go bad!

This right here. I used to buy a knives for specific, niche purposes, but I started enjoying the hobby much more when I just faced the fact that buying knives had nothing to do with practicality and was something that I did just because I enjoyed it. That gave me the freedom to buy the knives I wanted rather than the knives that I identified some obscure 'need' for which, in turn, has significantly increased my enjoyment of the hobby.

An incredible looking knife for sure. A little large for me on the EDC side of things. Looks like a one and done outdoors blade. Those scales, wow.

It's not as big as it looks. I think the blade is 4.6" if I remember right. I love the way the 3D scales feel in my hands, even with the gorgeous Cocobolo scales on it. I have other scales that I can put on the blade. And the blade is just long enough that it doesn't try to poke into the cushions of chairs or the captain seats in my van when I sit. It should also make a great knife for self defense. Try one out! If you don't like it you should have no problem getting your money back here on the forum. CPK knives hold their value very well.

Old Hikory or Russel Green River 7 or 8 inch for kitchen use.
A antique Butcher's 24 inch (blade) 'pig splitter' cleaver would be kinda neat to hang on the wall in my room ...

-first & foremost, a good skinner. if I start hunting again, I‘ll pick up a Buck 113.

-a medium sized traditional for rare pocket-bottom carry would be nice.

-a small opinel to carry around when for when someone says, “Hey, can I borrow your knife?”

I’ve been looking for traditional myself. Always wanted a nice Barlow. One of these days.

If you're right handed, I can help. This 55gm William Henry B-15 Tom Brown Tracker Model is used by Tom and his tracker students as a survival knife. The San Mai blade has a ZDP-189 core which is hardened to 67HRC. The edge lasts a long time and can be sharpened on regular stones because there are no hard Carbides (Vanadium). The knife is out of production, but they pop up for sale both here and on the bay.
I have been EDCing this knife for 20 years. It has knocked the 940/943's out of my pocket. No chips in the edge either. The button lock is set up for right handers. It flips open and shut just like the Axis lock knives..
