What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

A group of curved Barlows!!!View attachment 2594501

Very cool, Charlie! Are you any closer to talking Bill into making a curved Barlow? 😁

Here’s my most recent Barlow pic.

Found this today at the antique store. Is this stag?

Since Barlows were considered inexpensive knives, the companies used the bone pieces that were not adequate for more "upscale" knives! Showing some "marrow" was considered good enough for a Barlow!!
Now referred to as "soup bone" such bone- handled knives are much sought after for their Wabi Sabi charm!! Great find, I believe from 1920 to 1940!!!!

I just finished this oversized 4" barlow. I am the maker with paid membership and no longer in possession of the knife.

This is 14c28n stainless steel with Vintage micarta. Stainless liners and bolsters with bronze washers.

Saw this one in Custom Slipjoint Haven today. Mighty fine work, and I really like that you chose 14C28N. That stuff takes such a nice edge.

From a maker's perspective I love this 14C28N. It machines (drills, cuts the nail nick) so nice before heat treat. It grinds easy and hand sands without tears. The edge came out nice and toothy with 1000 grit stone and some stropping on a Hapstone.
