Also working on polishing the hamon in this piece of W2. Hit me with your best tips! I can't seem to get good contrast. It etches beautifully but then my polishing removes any dark areas so I'm left with a really beautiful hamon but it's super difficult to see. Ignore my kid talking in the background lol didn't notice that until now.

Straight jack slip joints. Working on prototype design. 3 blade shapes same frame. Speak, Clip, sheeps foot (still in progress). had to take apart the green one a few times after peening. I am focused on just practicing the process now, Trying to get faster, consistent. But buggered up the pivot hole on that one, didn't fix it well enough before peening again.

Nice classic frame model.
Did you do the lines on the bolsters with your laser?

yes fiber laser. trying to figure out right # of passes, depth. When to do it in the process is also a question. I did them after they were shaped and think they look slightly curved. I need to do them when flat to see if it comes out different. Also depending on how good I am with the pivot I have been sanding through the lines, so they need to go deeper.

These are a little too thin, so widening them up more next time too.

I realy like the results you get with your laser but loath the idea of working digitaly with a laser myself.
I've been batteling the pivot myself, in the end it was the with of my pin stock.
I use 3mm holes and no smaller then 2.96-2.98mm pin stock now with no problems since.
I have a 1:50 reamer and give each side of the hole one 360 ream.

Finally….. Ever since I broke the tip off of this one and turned it into a tanto, I’ve had a vision of the way I wanted the finish on the blade to look. After 3 days of etching and polishing I finally got it! I Wanted a little darker slightly worn look and I’ve thrown every potion and powder I could find at it to get it. I only had to completely start over and re-sand it once. It’s hard to get a good picture of it but it’s exactly what I wanted.

I asked our Chem/Safety guy at work if they were getting rid of any old, tall gas cylinders (they go through them at the end of the school year and they recycle the old ones in a large dumpster). Got a call a few weeks later that this one is ready for me! Going to de valve it, make sure it's empty and have a machine shop lop the top off for me for AAA.
