This must be where the DEKs hang out, eh?

Evidently the DEK3 doesn't appeal to some! Looking mighty fine to me when I fondle them :p

Everyone has preferences and opinions. 😊

Best thing about CPK is that you really can't go wrong.
Blindfold yourself, Pick anything they make; you're going to have a high quality tool in your hand that's not going to let you down. In most cases, even if you're a total moron being heavily abusive, it's still not going to completely fail you.

"Carothers Performance Knives; you'll fail before they do." 😆

Has anyone done any real big game processing with their dek1? Is one better off bringing something specific for the task? Curious on feedback…

I have used my sdfk. So as far as the blade staying sharp I can attest you won't have any issues with d3v.

If you tried to pound the dek1 through the pelvic bone, you might have some minor edge rolling. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate using a dek1 for processing game.

I'm going to do one of those multi-quote things that get so frustrating to navigate in the Porch (sorry, fellas).

I'm in the vast minority here, so take this with a grain of salt. Most people will love the dek3.

It was too thin for what I like in a fixed blade. I don't need to slice tomatoes into paper with the fixed blade I carry on my hip or in my pocket. I have kitchen knives for that. I also prefer more belly on my blades.

The dek1 or edc1 is about as thin as I like my fixed blades. My opinion is that the DEK1 is probably the most underrated knife I've ever come across; we just take it for granted.

Fair critique, in my opinion. I love my DEK3 but I primarily use it in the kitchen, where it absolutely shines. I carry the DEK1 or DEK2 otherwise.

+1

Plus, the 3 is ugly :)

Oh you, bless your heart.

😁

I opted for Satin on mine. And I wish I didn’t as it lead me to not want to use it. Thus I sold mine. It went to a good fellow so that is alright. But I wish I had a normal one.

I think the satin finishes look spectacular but I never order them. I have a special finish on only one of my CPKs and it's an EDC. Jury is out on the reason why I don't carry and use it as much - could be because of the fancy finish or it could be that the EDC is not my favorite EDC.

Regardless I feel like the DEK1 is the best all-around option for almost everyone

Have to agree on that. I was lukewarm on it at first but it's a knife that is a better EDC than the actual EDC - in my opinion, of course.

I pre-ordered my fancy DEK3 thinking that it would be “easy” to buy a basic tumbled D3V “user” later in a normal Friday sale. Well, at least half of my plan worked out…

Beautiful knives, fellas, just stunning. I don't care what Roland thinks about your DEKs, they aren't ugly at all.

😁

I did not win the wood lottery like Phil and Casinostocks (Matt?) but I didn't order any fancy extras so I think the more muted nature of this wood suits any of my DEKs ok. Had to find some sunlight to get it to pop a bit more.

I've recently acquired a nice collection of dek1s and noticed all 3 have unique makers marks. I'm simply curious if these were different runs or what causes the carothers placement to change. I understand lorien updated his logo.
The earlier run of the DEK1 had the Carothers sig towards the top of the blade while in the later run of DEK1, 2, 3, it was moved down to the ricasso area by the scales. Your sample on the left is from the first run.
