PLEASE do not ask Ralph for any free videos. He has been kind enough to send quite a few out. Please wait until the final version is for sale and support Ralph by buying his DVD and book.
Thanks,

Hello all,

It's been a long time since I've posted here on Bladeforums, I'm glad to see it is more active than ever! It's been years, so I had better introduce myself...

I am Ralph Thorn, the author of the book Combat Knife Throwing. I was pleased to see from glancing through some threads that some of you seem familiar with my work. I have just finished up the first part of a video project I've been working on. We have decided to release a free video on computer cd, playable on Windows Media Player. It's a little "movie" about 19 minutes long, that has something like 250 throws on it demonstrating my techniques, and a few brief talking segments describing what I am doing. I'd like to mail anybody who wants to see it a copy, only if I get hit with a huge number of requests I might have to charge for postage or something.

Everybody who wants one, send mean e-mail. The email address I had to use to get on Bladeforums isn't all that reliable, so send it to eralphthorn@yahoo.com. Also, that's the email I use most for knife throwing stuff. (We have a little discussion group of our own over there where we only talk about our type of knife throwing, spinless, self-defense, etc.) Again, as long as I don't get a prohibitive number of requests, I'll mail them at my expense, just because we're trying to get a little organization to this thing and I want anybody who's into it to participate. I feel like the video will erase a lot of doubts people might have about my style of knife throwing.

Happy Holidays all.

Ralph Thorn

I've seen Ralph's video and had the pleasure of having him teach me his method of throwing. It has opened my eyes to a new way of throwing that i've only dreamed about. I have copies of his book for sale also if anyone does not have one.

I have nothing for sale, and no agenda here.

If you haven't seen Ralph Thorn throw, it's worth it.

Even if you have no desire to learn his throwing method, you should still see what he can do.

I've heard about this video project, and look forward to seeing it.

Okay, after tonight I'm going to have to call it off. I'm running out of bubblepack envelopes and blank cds! (Hopefully no one fell through the cracks; requests were a little hard to keep track of). The response has been pretty good and I might give out some more of them here later on, but for now I have to take a break, or if you're really anxious to get one, get in touch with me and we'll work something out. Or maybe you could contact someone else on the forum who already has one. I hope that some of the people who get them will be willing to burn copies and send them to others who might not have one, then others can do that in turn, chain-letter style. That way everyone who wants one can get one without bankrupting me! Also, one person said he might be able to post it online somewhere later on, so maybe everyone can see it for free.

I find that people don't really understand our type of throwing until they see it, regardless of what I write or say. Seeing it puts a lot of debates about what can and cannot be done with knife throwing on a better foundation, in my opinion. I'll try and check back in on Bladeforums a little more often, to answer any questions or comments people might have on the video.

Regards all,

Ralph Thorn

Ralph, ask for $5.00 and a padded envelope. That will knock the request down to the serious inquiries.

Sent you Email before reading the end of the thread, sorry  . Will help as stated in the Email, if a copy becomes available.

I received mine Saturday... Ralph, it's okay if you slow down on order fulfillment. That was fast!

Watched it just now with FMK...

Very good video production values--this is far more of a professional production than a freebie promo, and we were impressed. Judicious use of slow-mo and replays: only where needed. Nice blend of practical and demonstration: I can't imagine too many people will doubt the efficacy of this throwing method after watching this.

The irony is that I think this video is longer than the time it takes to actually read the book! As a result, I think they work well together, and now I'd like to re-read his book now and watch the video--I think just about every technique in his book is presented in the video if you watch carefully enough.

Very nice work, Ralph! Very impressive.

If anyone *can* do this, note it's a single 189MB MPG file.

Thanks to Watchful for the nice review. One of the biggest differences in my video work and that of a lot of other videos of this type, aside from the fact that we didn't film it in one day but over a period of years, is my use of a live cameraman. I think that is essential for my type of throwing, which, for those who are not aware of it, is totally mobile and improvisational. And if I may brag on him a little, he is a fantastic camerman; no normal person could have gotten some of those shots.

The idea is this: I will expand that video to about twice the length, add music and lots more text, slow motion closeups of grips and releases, etc., plus other material, and release it as a commercial product at the lowest possible cost to the consumer. You're thinking along the right lines, the full version of that video will act as a supplement to the book, but also as a stand-alone introduction to my system of knife throwing.

That will be phase two of my video project, and I hope it will be completed and available on dvd (of course) within the next few months. Phase three will be a full-length, full-blown instructional video, which will be available considerably later.

Hi All

Ralph how ya been havent heard from you in a while?

Does this video have different stuff on it then the last one I got from you?

Take care

Hi Jason,

It's nice to hear from you. You know, the thought actually crossed my mind when I started giviing this new cd out that I hoped there were some more like you out there, who would make copies and pass them around!

Yes, it's new. This is more like a full-blown video production and it's much bigger and more elaborate than the old quicktime cd. It's one file, 19 minutes long. This one has about 250 throws on it and there's not much duplication from the old quicktime cd.

Of course you are exempt from my new policy of not giving them away because you did such a good job of passing them around last time, so get me your address and I'll have you one in the mail asap.

Thank you Ralph, it means a lot to me that you would do this

Can you email me off list so I can send you my address please
( new system and I dont have your personal email anymore)

jchasse@gwi.net

Thank you

All, here is Ralph's video in portions (Thanks Ralph) demonstrating him in action. You can download the file from the following link http://rapidshare.de/files/10936890/Raph_Thorn_Knife_Throwing.rar.html.

The video is compressed in .rar format and is approximately 36.6 MB. The enclosed files are actually in Quicktime format. If you are a rapidshare member then you know what to do, if not just click on the "Free" section and it will take you to a download screen.

If you need to get WinRar you can go to: http://www.download.com/3000-2250-10007677.html

I think it greatly shows Ralph's technique and is a good primer for his book and upcoming full video. Enjoy :D.

hey, that's the first time I don't use rapidshare for porn :p

Just kidding, I used MegaUpload once for a Thermodynamics book :)

Yup, RS is typically used for porn but I thought I would use my powers for good.... this time ;) :D

I just got and watched the video. That is pretty awesome. I definitely would like to try to learn that technique- it would replace my feeble traditional throwing methods. I know it has to be harder than it looks, but it looks so easy that maybe I have a chance! Count me in on the instructional video whenever that gets made. Now I just need to find a copy of the book to get started.
