I may have just experienced "too much cowbell" for the first time. The neighbor cut loose with a few rounds from his Barrett.

He's got a 55 gallon barrel filled with cement at 600 yds. and it sends up a cloud of smoked concrete when the .50 smacks it. Pretty awesome actually. Lovely sound.

I saw a guy fire a 20 mil anti armor gun once. It vibrates your insides if your near...lol
I bet the Barret is similar.

Great news James. What sort of treatment will she pursue?

Mainly diet and exercise. We're looking at a stationary bike and maybe regular bikes too (I could stand to lose a few pounds myself; I don't even want to know what's going on inside my joints... but I do know they hurt a lot less when I was 200# than they do now  ). She got a cortisone-type shot and a scrip for non-narcotic painkillers that are supposed to work pretty well and not upset her stomach. There's quite a bit of arthritis in the knee so someday it may have to be replaced, but hopefully that's a long ways off.

JT -good to hear. Knee surgery should be avoided almost as certainly as back surgery. I've known too many people who've had one or the other and ended up worse than before surgery.

Actually, that's basically what the surgeon said, too. We found his honesty refreshing.

That sucks about getting hit :( Take your time and heal up. Make sure every little thing is documented if you have any aches and pains at all, and I hope you hired a mean vicious bastard of a lawyer.

My Dad just had this happen to him from spinal surgery. Has been suffering from severe back pain for many many years, finally it got to the point where he was really struggling. After fighting through all sorts of different injections, shots, therapy, medicines, specialists, etc etc etc, they finally arrived that surgery was the only route... WELL... the surgery fixed one problem, and exacerbated another one... bad deal all around. Plus the local hospital who did the original MRI botched those up too...

ANYWAYS, as far as bikes go look into recumbent bikes. They are a good place to start, not terribly expensive, and they will offer a lower impact which can make the exercise more comfortable allowing her to want/be able to exercise more or as needed. Plus they wont stress out other parts of the body as much as a normal bike would. All of that being said take the advice of your doctor on what they think is best alongside any research you have done on your own. IE go into a sporting goods store and try some different stuff out! Glad to hear yall got some good news and I wish yall the best!

In other news... I'm back on the DL. I got T-Boned yesterday by a cop. He rolled through a stop sign and hit me on the passenger's side. Car is definitely totaled but dealing with the city of Dallas' insurance will be a joy I'm sure. Already got a lawyer so I guess I'll let him do his thing while I try to get healed up enough to go back to work. :grumpy:

I hope you heal quickly and well.

If you play your cards right, you may not have to worry about ever going back to work.:D

In other news, Angie had her consultation yesterday. Turns out she doesn't need surgery on her knee, so that's good news... she was pretty freaked out about that idea. Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone :)

That is good news, James! I'll still keep the prayers headed that way, though.

I've got a herniated disc (L5-S1) that first swelled up about 15 or 18 years ago, and ruptured a few years after that. A couple years into it, I had a consult with the head of neurosurgery at the big Army medical center in San Antonio (BAMC for those familiar with it). He said "If I was in private practice and had a boat payment due, I'd schedule you for surgery immediately. But since I'm not, and don't have a boat, I'd recommend waiting until it is really causing pain. You'll know when that is and won't need a doctor to tell you." He further explained that there was an about a 90% of surgery not making a difference, about a 5% chance of miracle cure, and about 5% chance of "oops." With those odds, he asked if I wanted to roll the dice, or wait. I'm still waiting 15 years later... Crunches and back stretches learned in physical therapy, and concentrating on good body mechanics when lifting has enabled me to avoid the knife so far.

Heal up quick and best of luck with the city.

So, anyone else seen Continuum? I just started watching it the other day on Netflix, it's interesting...

Nope, I'm stuck in the Game of Thrones rabbit hole.

Complete opposite end of the spectrum. This is 65 years in the future (and the present) and there are no boobs flopping around in every episode, and no midgets, and no horses, and... I guess it's kind of a crappy show when put up against GoT.

Continuum? Is that the one with a good looking lady cop that accidentally ends up traveling back int time to modern day Canada?
I've seen every episode and yep its pretty good.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and happy thoughts. I'm going to be alright just not sure how soon. I'm taking a few days off work and seeing a specialist Thursday so I'm hopeful. At least I can get caught up on Sons of Anarchy and a couple of other shows.:D

Its not Bad Cbear. I have seen a season of it
Kind of interesting when thinking about it in relation to what's going on around St. Louis... That's all I'm saying about that. Not getting into a political thing.

Yup, that's the one. I only seen the first two (three?) seasons... However many on Netflix. It's a good show. I started watching it on Wednesday, finished it today.

I tried to watch Sons of Anarchy, I seen the first few (3? 4?) seasons, it was good but I got burnt out on it. I been waiting for Netflix to pick up Justified but I don't see that happening right now so I'll probably download it. I need to rewatch the first two seasons before I watch the next ones.

Yeah, but at leasts it does a better job of closing the various story arcs. GoT seems like it's wandering around looking for closure. And the books hold little promise of any resolution.

It's entertaining TV!

Sons is excellent. Brilliant cliffhanger episodes and not unwilling to kill major characters to move the story forward.
