4.1 Seconds Order Average shipping Time

I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught the post! It has since been removed. It got a lot of hate in the comments for showing the shop working on seconds while there are still unfulfilled preorders.
I really really hope this new production model improves things for both the company and Guy. I wouldn't be able to handle those kinds of comments personally. Mostly it is the tried and true "shipping notifications instead of excuses" attack that really gets me.
I wonder if the update he hinted at for tomorrow will have more details than the production update due out at the end of the week?

Yes, I was sorry to see that. Wasn't pretty.

I don't think there is an average on Factory 2nd 4.1s. I ordered mine last October and received it in April, which was suppose to be 60 days. Some others who ordered the same day received theirs as late as June. Guys who ordered in January received theirs on June as well, but we're told 90 days for delivery.
S!K isn't known for their timely delivery of their knives. That being said I have had a few arrive within the 45 day and sharp and ready to shop 4.7s.
They are known for their quality and one of the best for the price. I'd just be happy to receive my knife within 6 months. However, if someone isn't willing to wait than expect to pay $280-$325 for a 4.1 versus buying direct for $215 and waiting. If you're lucky you come across deals where you can pickup users or ones guys are selling to just replace their cost.

I did notice the divot on some, but it seemed to me the majority were without?

It is very possible that you are correct. I noticed the Divots because they were only offered earlier on vs. the factory seconds. Seems like they are slowly clearing the backlog.

I hope so.
Again, I'm new to S!K and knew I was assuming a risk that my orders might take some time to be filled. For my part, I'd be delighted if some of the negativity and frustration hanging over the company was lifted through catching up with old orders - esp of those who invested in the "starter" program since, AFAIK, without them, I might never have been able to place my own "regular" orders.
Guy's post was certainly well-intentioned as a sign of movement and progress. Pity it incurred such a backlash.
Here's to hoping that soon everyone will be happy and get a chance to take these knives outside and enjoy them.
Cheers!

I did order my 4.1 f2 when it seemed like they were fulfilling the 90 day shipping, and am waiting since February. As supertac916 pointed out it is a good price but there is an undetermined wait involved. Personally, I like the shape, material and attention to detail that is put into the knives. It is very understandable that people are upset, but it would be nice to have regular updates again.

Agree on the updates.
Pity.

Bow drill pivots were (I think) only available on the starter orders.
That should have made some people happy.
The Instagram post comments have tended to be about a quarter "you're great keep your head up" with the rest consisting mostly of "Where is my ^&*$% knife?"
So, while I like the shop pictures, and sometimes Guy gives decent information in his comments, the rest of the comments have been pretty useless.

I did order 3 knives several years ago. Looking forward to getting them. I agree that it is not good business practice to then sell other knives within the last 6 months and work on them, and ship them out to customers, and at the same time indefinitely extend the time that people in my position are forced further back on wait times.

That is something I cannot understand. I have never heard of a business working that way.

From Instagram this evening:

  • surviveknivesWIP Wednesday: Swipe through to view all of the images. We're working on finishing up a LOT of knives this week. Over the next few weeks there will be a ton of shipping labels.

Of course we're working through GSO-4.1s, fitting handles to blades and microtexturing handles, getting them ready to ship out. We're also working on finishing out another big batch of GSO-7/7s. The very last of the GSO-2.7 blades are done with surface finishing, so the last few presale blades are getting ready to be finished out. A couple handfuls of GSO-2.7 leftovers will be available sometime soon, as soon as we're more caught up on GSO-4.1s and GSO-7/7s. Oh yeah, last but certainly not least, the GSO-4LTD blades are back from heat treating.

I ordered my 4.1 F2 on October 18, 2016. It was shipped out March 9, 2017, according to my Orders page. As others have stated, there is no standard completion time. It all depends on what hurdle the young company has to jump over after your order was placed. My CFV F2 went out 11 days after my order. 2.7 and 4.7 seconds took less than a month to ship. Others I've been waiting on for over a year.

Like many others, I've been waiting since 2015 on some of my Starter orders. F2nds have been my most expeditious route, but there have been far less of those in recent months (which is a good sign for Survive QC), so we won't be able to count on that option so much. Unable to find anything I like better in the past couple of years, and loving the eight Survive knives I've acquired, I look forward with anticipation and not anxiety.

The 4.1 is my second favorite knife (to the 4.7), and was well worth the wait. The potential joy of swinging a GSO12 is the most likely means to dethrone the 4.1 as my 2nd choice :) I hope you enjoy yours as much. Don't let it sit idle in a safe; get it outside!

Does anyone know how they're marking the factory seconds as seconds now? I thought i saw a pic with "factory second" under the american flag but now i cant find it.

you are correct. the "Factory 2nd" text appears directly under the flag, as if it were simply another line in the flag image.
Guy posted some images on instagram, May 11:

I didn't have it on many of my early 2nds, but it was on my CFV and 4.1.

Yep, Packerrat is correct ^ it's right below the flag now. Before they got their own etcher, it was a drill divot underneath the scales.

And another week has passed. I'm at about 200 days since I ordered my F2 7/7. I'm sure I'll get another reassuring Instagram post stating "we're currently working on 7/7s, .... and 4.1 and 3.5 and the exciting new SK line, and some 4-Limiteds, and by the way we're accepting Pre-Orders as an opportunity for you. Lots shipping out this week!" This hunk of steel and micarta better rival the Sistine Chapel by the time it arrives. (I'm also waiting on a Pre-Order).

It is not a secret that Survive has consistently missed their own production goals since launching the new spec knives in 2015.
I like just about everything else about the company (except the sharpening choils ;) ) but they do tend to be very late on knife delivery.

GSO 3.5s ready for grinding posted on Instagram...
Anyone hazard a guess or know usual timeline once this stage has been reached?

Oyster, assuming that you aren't joking I can give answers based on previous experience.
To date the amount of time between when a knife enters production until the first units begin shipping has been between seven and twelve months.
The amount of time to complete shipping a model run (after knives first began leaving the shop) was four months for the 5.1 and fourteen months for the 4.7.
All of that information is now out of date since the 3.5 is being produced under a different business plan.
Do remember that Survive has inventory in their shop and are currently producing the 2.7, 4.1, and 7/7 models.
I don't think that anybody knows when those previous models will be completed and the GSO 3.5 will enter production.
I think that there is a very good chance that the SK 3.5 model (which isn't being assembled in the Survive shop) will begin production in the next few months.
