Photos A Walk in Nature

January 1, 2023 New Year new trail to hike. A variation on the coast of Maine scene. :) 🥳

Notice, not a flake of snow on the ground anywhere this January 1 at 48° F

Looking down & out on the tidal River ~

A spill over that finds its way to the sea with a secure bridge for the kicker. ~

Phone Camera doesn't seem to be able to keep a wide focus. :( Spoils a lot of photos.

This way out to sea ~

Look back as the beauty of the day starts to fade ~

Found this poster burl in the woods ~ Good reason to pose the knife, as if one needs a reason. ;)

Had to go to Quebec earlier this week to find snow. That was another walk in "nature" ~

We were NOT on any tour but MAN O' MAN there were sooooooooo many people, belied by this photo but take my word for it - QUEBEC is a destination. I was more than amazed.

That's all for now. Happy Day 1 everyone!
Looks like a great trip.

Have you tried cleaning the phones camera lens?

Happy New Year Dan! Your lovely bride looks healthy and beautiful! Wonderful to see you two out and about.
Happy New Year Dwight !
Thank you my friend. :)

CelloDan CelloDan , looks like a great afternoon and outing. The blue Jay is awesome. As much snow as you have, I know your feathered friends were very happy to see.
Gracias ! Yes, the blue jays were the highlight of our Christmas day walk. Usually they are a lot more shy and keep a bit more distance however this time they were in real need of calories due to a few days of severe weather. Our treats proved irresistible and we got to see them up close.

Lots of green heads and pair of wood ducks while walking yesterday
"Cool" to see the ducks " just chilling" 🦆
They do not seem to mind the " white stuff" ☺️❄️
Nice walk and pictures and a beautiful yankee barlow !

Found this monster burl in the woods ~ Good reason to pose the knife, as if one needs a reason. ;)
Wow, dreaming of the woodturning possibilities :)

Do you actually mean that you drive long distances in search of the " white stuff" ❄️o_O😱
Beautiful pics my friend and glad you enjoyed your visit to "La Belle Province" 🇨🇦

Dan, thanks for those good news.
Great to see you on the skis but don't forget, no ice skating anymore!

Dan.
Thank you Dan :)

The anniversary of the "Great Fall" is fast approaching so I thought I should face my fears and try nordic ice skating again 😱
The ladies of the house have all ruled unanimously that if I go back at it I have NO CHOICE but to wear a helmet at all times.

I was thinking 🤔 that just bringing my bunny knife 🐇with me for good luck would be more than plenty 🤷‍♂️ however the ladies have spoken and any resistance ... at my age ... is futile :D

I really enjoy this thread and a always impressed by how often some of the regulars get out and about. New Year's day my daughter, her husband and my 5 grandkids went out to our hunting camp for a stroll and a hot dog roast. Some of us were on snowshoes and some on skis. Wrapped up the 10 month old in his snowsuit and a sleeping bag and my son-in-law pulled him in a sled. He only fell out once.

This is me, straggling in last.

Thank you gentleman !!! Your well wishes and kind words are always appreciated.

We went on a little Christmas Day afternoon walk to visit our little friends after being cooped up due to severe weather for a couple days.
We were the only ones at the bird sanctuary and were glad to manage to make it there and back safely

Our little friends were EXTREMELY hungry today ! So glad we brought them presents :)

I am in absolute awe of these photos. Am at a total loss for words. THANK YOU for posting these!!! 😍 😍 😍

Went to recon a likely launch point for my boat come spring. This is near the mouth of Seneca Creek, where it flows into the Potomac:

From there I took a walk along the canal - upstream at first, but the canal runs between the river and a wildlife management area just there, and the noise of shotguns from both sides was distracting, so I turned around after a mile or so and went the other way instead. This is where the canal widens out into a pool:

I really enjoyed your photos detailing the construction of your boat. I am greatly looking forward to pictures of it on the water.

New camera. My dad saw what I do for the first time.
Asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told him, I says , " Dad, it's expensive." He says to me, " you think I can't afford it?"
My dad is 82 years old and a Neurologist, MD. He's well known and a well to do fellow.
He gets up at 5am every day. He works 5 days a week at his practice. To this day.
Hell of a pair of shoes to fill. He started from beans and nothing. He built an empire.
I might have another 100 camera's but none of them will mean as much to me as this one.
Ever.
I can make any camera work. But I'll never be able to make any of them work better than this one.
It's the camera my dad gave me.
You guys can probably tell that I love what I do. I don't make any money from this. I just do it and post some of the images on the Internet hoping one day to be discovered.
If that ever happens.......well, I would be the same guy I am , right now. It wouldn't just make my day. It would complete my life. It's the only thing I'm decent , at.
Happy new year to you all. And thanks for tolerating me and my ambitions.
Sincerely,
Arthur Smith

You are beyond "decent" sir. No idea where your "studio" is, but your photos bring out the peacefulness and realism. The cormorant and flamingo are very peaceful while the kingfisher with it's meal show realism. Please continue to take and share these awesome photos

I don't know what to say. I'm humbled. Thank you, sir.
I don't want to get in trouble on this site for some technicality. It started when I saw this topic about " a walk in nature."
Been doing that for a while. I go back and forth with it. Because it's probably the only thing for me.
I mostly think of myself as a guy with a camera. I'm not really a photographer.
Just a guy with a camera.

There is room for improvement. Help me get there.
Sincerely,
Arthur Smith

Arthur,

The technicality could be lack of knife shown in one of the photos and an admin would have final call I do believe. Otherwise, your photos appear to be to be of your walks in nature. I see nothing different in your photos than any others posted here.
The detail in your photos is amazing. I am just a guy with a phone that has a camera. I can barely take a photo with it. For me the photos you post are amazing. Keep doing what you are doing sir.

Good to see you enjoying your holidays on this trip Jack ! A variety of wildlife too. The squirrels look funny in Fuerteventura ☺️

I am sure I also see a Quaker parakeet. They are native to South America however they are an invasive species now in many parts of the world as they are very hardy, adapt quickly to different climates and have lots of babies.
I remember seeing vast flocks of them while growing up flying around our area.
A couple times my mother bought me parakeet babies from folks that would knock on your door with boxes full of them...folks trying to make a living by raiding their nest and selling the babies for just a few pesos.
I would hand raised them with "polenta" (corn grits).

Here is Tiki, our Green Cheeked Conure (also from South America) just chilling with the bunny 🐰
