Photos A Walk in Nature

It's the only thing I'm decent , at
I am quite certain you are being overly modest but even if this was all you are decent at I'd say you have a black belt in understatement. Your work is just about as spectacular as I've ever seen. Every image stunning.
Some wildlife pics from my Christmas trip to Fuerteventura (the rest are posted in the Guardians thread). Happy New Year everyone
Beautiful scenery my friend. I'm glad you are home safe and sound.

Good to see you enjoying your holidays on this trip Jack ! A variety of wildlife too. The squirrels look funny in Fuerteventura ☺️

I am sure I also see a Quaker parakeet. They are native to South America however they are an invasive species now in many parts of the world as they are very hardy, adapt quickly to different climates and have lots of babies.
I remember seeing vast flocks of them while growing up flying around our area.
A couple times my mother bought me parakeet babies from folks that would knock on your door with boxes full of them...folks trying to make a living by raiding their nest and selling the babies for just a few pesos.
I would hand raised them with "polenta" (corn grits).

Here is Tiki, our Green Cheeked Conure (also from South America) just chilling with the bunny 🐰

Thanks a lot mate, a load more pics in the Guardians thread :) Yeah, those squirrels sneaked over from Morocco ;) Some of the birds threw me a bit, but it turns out they escaped from a zoo, which closed down during covid, including the parakeets. Cool pic

Thanks Dwight, out of the frying pan... 🤣 ;)

No big adventures for me today, but I did manage to sneak out for a couple of hours to walk around a local reservoir:

I’m still trying to decide if the Kiana counts as traditional. It has none of the banned features, and I have seen a similar blade shape on some other “traditional” French knives, but the handle seems a little modern, and they also now offer a version with a hole in the blade.

Arthur,

The technicality could be lack of knife shown in one of the photos and an admin would have final call I do believe. Otherwise, your photos appear to be to be of your walks in nature. I see nothing different in your photos than any others posted here.
The detail in your photos is amazing. I am just a guy with a phone that has a camera. I can barely take a photo with it. For me the photos you post are amazing. Keep doing what you are doing sir.

Thanks Y'all. Alot. Kinda hard to find words. Just, thank you.

Dont talk to me about nature....I pulled a huge tick out this morning ....i woke up with the damn thing latched on to a part of my body that I use for stting down and other important duties....put it this way...I couldnt see it without a mirror...i mean this thing was on the "edge of reality"....i used tick removing freeze spray...which makes em let go or freezes them....pulled it out and it crawled around in the sink before i flushed it down the plughole...
Heres the strange part...I was wearing long pants all day...so it was either in the pants or in the bed....how did it get there?? The wonder of nature...grr rassen frickken ticken trassen.

Well Jon, at least it hadn’t progressed forward into your nether regions! Now that would have been a challenge. 😜

They do walk meako meako - up or down. Up from your socks or down from your hair. Sometimes they just wait until the better parts are revealed before they make their move. They go where other creatures dread to be left alone. 😉 Shaking out your clothing and a vigorous shower scrub within a few hours of being outdoors could save you from the next indignity. 🤭

I agree though - in principal. Our lives have changed with the proliferation of ticks. :poop: Gone are the days of a happy on your back in the grass evenings under the stars watching meteor showers or the auroras or some other delightful past time. Running with wild abandon through piles of dry leaves is a no no too. What's become of this place?

Anyway, my Brother, take care of yourself. Good on you for having the freezing spray. Maybe see through pants will be useful. 🤔

Back in the eighties I watched my girlfriend cut a tick in half and put the pieces in a small bottle of alcohol. When queried if that didn't seem like overkill, she responded, "Not even death kills ticks."

What ! ... No pictures to share with the Porch meako meako ? As in a traditional knife helping you detach that hideous parasitic arachnid ? 🤪😄

I hate those things 😠. They have greatly increased in numbers around here in the past few years to the point that we are really concerned every time we go outdoors. Lyme disease has become a great concern.
A brief google search tells me that Lyme disease is not a problem down under so that is a good thing  however I am sure they can still transmit other diseases.

Two years ago we had to cut short our little adventure to Camelot Island on the Saint Lawrence River due to the ticks. They were everywhere
It was in May when they are out feeding in full force after winter. They go a bit dormant in the hot summer months and get more active again in the fall. Our poor dog, Toby came home with 7 of them attached :(

That is why we now prefer "camping" aboard our small sailboat as much as possible.

Today I was finally able to go to the ice trails again.
They had to close them right after Christmas due to several days of unseasonal very warm temperatures that melted all the ice they had work so hard to build :(
The huge amounts of the "white stuff"❄️ that had fallen just before Christmas melted away too making walking trails a very slushy and muddy mess.
That meant no xc skiing either :(

I admit that I was yearning for the cold and the ❄️ to come back.
Either bring it on or not at all old man winter !!!

So when the cabin fever got to me I had to go outside to say hi to my girls ;) They certainly gave us some great memories in the 1000 islands and Rideau Canal last season.

Hi "Serena"

Hey "Esperanza" :)

Today, as I was debating which knife to bring to the ice trails I thought my Canal Street Cutlery stockman would be an inspiring choice ;)

I'm glad you haven't had a rebounce - on your head Dan. :) You and I share the exact same sentiment of winter -" I admit that I was yearning for the cold and the ❄️ to come back. Either bring it on or not at all old man winter !!!" Yes - either bring it on or get the heck out of the way. This mild rainy winter stuff is NOT WINTER and does not let us go out and play. :(

Say hello to Esperanza and your other "girls" for me. Nice to see the CS is out playing with you. Enjoy.

AND - though I like photos with our posts I appreciate meako meako 's restraint. 🤣

Here is ONE of my winter knives ~
