All ASH-1 Variants - pics, please!

Well I think it is a LOT better lookin' than the std Blk & Tan, which just does not appeal to me at all.

What's not to like about Black and Tan?

TFQSUUs.jpg

I believe these were sold through the Busse Company Store around 2008.

I think they're both Skinny ASH-1s. The bottom one (Desert Sage with Black Canvas) is for sure.

Dear JTT,

The std, typical Blk & Tan is just not my cup of tea subjectively. Objectively I can make no argument against it! :)

Nice 3B2!

Mine with some mods.

LMT66: Thank you and NICE - VERY NICE 3B2! Thanks for sharing her! And I thought I would get grief (and was therefore "brave") for simply stripping my 3B2! ;) I have seen one other 3B2 with similar mods to yours (Mayhap it IS yours? It has been quite a while) - nicely done BTW. She looks like a fantastic user .

Here you go Ken:

1) .22" thick frosted with tiger stripes and black G-10
I know of two with these stripes, one fat one and this one; there might be a few more.

Yup. THAT is the stuff right there, man. Holy cow. Gotta somehow someway get one someday. Cannot get enough of that treatment! 'Course I would have to use her, but what the heck, that is the point of a knife - especially one like a Busse (IMHO only).

THANK YOU!!!

(BTW, "LK" has got one, too. Up on The Bay.)

2) .22" thick satin with black paper micarta
View attachment 1196634

NICE! I love black paper. Wish it were still around. I like it better than black G10 for a similar look.

3) .32" thick satin with black G-10
As I recall, this one and the black paper one above were special orders by the original owner. Satin ASH-1s with a fat blade are rare, and so are .22" thick satin ASH-1 blades except for the LE model with tiger hide micarta.

Satin Fatties and Middys are rare?! I had no idea, really. Though come to think of it, one does not see them much. Awesome news as I now have a satin Fatty and a satin Middy! WooHoo!:cool: The Fat Boy was my order from Garth, and the Midster was a recent purchase from RichardW (my thanks, always).

4) .22" thick sage double-edge with green linen micarta (it is the darkest green linen I have handled)
Notice the slender 3B2 blade profile.

Now THIS I have never seen . . . WOW. THIS Babe is a close second to my love for the Nuked and Frosted hotty ya' also got. :p:p:p I love my 3B2, so :) Gawd, the Custom Shop just has to reopen someday!!!

5) I saved the best for last!
.22" thick satin custom with a serrated harpoon tip followed by a hollow-ground band breaker (both top edges are sharp); the main edge has a very slight recurve. The handle has finger grooves and I'm guessing the wood is some type of burl. This is my favorite!

You have quite the abundance of riches, do you not!:D
At first glance, she was admirable of course, but not of appeal. THEN I looked more closely. The stabilized wood is what took over the appearance for me at first glance, and while I know many love the look, it is just not for me. That said, the serrated 'poon with band breaker and slight recourse is a combo of features that I simply have to admire and yes, once again, will now definitely order IF that CS ever reopens to us!:cool:

Thank you so much for sharing these. New Grails for me! :):):)

That was my reaction to your last one. My reactions to the first 4 was lost. Will repost!

#2 and #3 are lovely! Thank you for letting me know that satin Fatboys and Midsters are rather rare. I had no idea, though come to think of it, one does not see them all that commonly here. o_O Good news for me, I suppose, as I now have a Fat satin (thanks Garth - my old CS order), and a Midster satin (thanks, RichardW!). Yeah, me!!:rolleyes:

#4 is SICK. Just SICK, man. Wow. I cannot say enough in admiration. This one is a surprise. I love my 3B2, so it makes sense, but wow.
So now I know my first, second, and third Custom Shop orders upon her official reopening!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

(BTW, "L.K." has one up on The 'Bay. That was the first frosted, nuked ASH-1 I saw. Some years ago, though still there. Naturally, at that price (not that I have not thought about it!).)

I was not going to post these two of my own (as referenced in a reaction of mine above), but what the hay if in fact satiny Fatsters and Midsters are not terribly common.

I love them both! When I received my fulfilled CS order of the Fatty, I was not too sure about her at first. That was the first .33" blade I had ever had in hand. It just " seemed" to be "too much." That opinion and feeling diminished over time, and then I used her. Well, that was that!

Still not sure how I manage to do that (last post) :(

I hope this works better!

My two Custom Shop satin Middy and Fatty (courtesy RichardW and Garth, by order, respectively). Was not going to post a pic of the two as they are not true variants, but what the heck given that I am now advised they are not terribly common!

I always liked the black & tan G-10 with a DC finish, but it looks pretty cool with the black finish.
By the way, you have a good memory - I also bought a skinny ASH-1 from the BCS in 2008.

I like the one on the right – is that brown & black G-10, or maybe 2 shades of brown?

I'm glad you enjoyed the ASH-1 photos. Regarding satin ASH-1s, the only satin regular production ASH-1 version was the LE. I have seen other satin ASH-1s, but I certainly would not call them common. I imagine they were released in ganzas, shows, grab bags and maybe special orders.

I was not sure what kind of micarta was on the double-edge ASH-1 until last night when I compared it to another Busse knife with green linen micarta – under magnification the colors and fiber patterns look identical between the two knives, even though without magnification the ASH-1 grips look significantly darker than other green linen I have seen.

Unfortunately the mix of natural and artificial light I used when taking the photos made the colors of the wood on the harpoon custom look slightly washed out. I particularly like highly figured wood, so it appeals to me; I understand not everyone has the same appreciation as me, and that's ok – life would be pretty boring if everyone liked the same stuff. :D

Thank you kindly for that. It is actually the quite common, but my favorite G10, Green & Black. The lighting when I took the photo is probably a tad misleading, though it still looks green and black on my monitor. Pics are funny like that, huh.

The Orange & Black middy is RWingert's Custom Shop order with which he Kindly parted. The Green & Black fatty is my own Custom Shop order.

I was not sure what kind of micarta was on the double-edge ASH-1 until last night when I compared it to another Busse knife with green linen micarta –

Green linen sure can be tough to identify. It can appear so differently depending I am guessing on the batch and the cut and finish. I love it. My favorite Micarta that I have owned. I like it better than Tigerhide (I have never had a Snake', though).

Hmmm. I might like the color better than I thought then. As you say, to each their own! In wood I prefer a more subdued figure/grain, and definitely prefer undyed, more natural appearance and color. But you are certainly not alone! All good! Again, that said, the knife itself is simply amazing!!!!

Again, thanks so much for those wild pics - pure knife porn to me!

evitcat, that is a real stunner there! I am not usually much of a fan of the Cerakote look, but that is subtle and very nice, indeed!

YES to an INFI satin ASH-1 re-release!
