Photos Blades on Hikes

I thought of this thread today as I was hiking at low tide on New Brighton beach in CA, so I stopped along the way to get pics with my Entrek Companion (made by Ray Ennis in 440C). It’s my only stainless outdoor fixed blade and it’s the one that usually comes to the beach, especially on a rainy day like today.

Found some critters, some fossils, an intact oyster shell that’s now a spoon rest next to the stove, and a big and very dense chunk of orange chert which I’ll be flattening into a sharpening stone in the near future.

Back at home after a rinse in tap water. I also had my “new” Off Grid folder in my pocket but didn’t think to pull it out for a picture.

So sorry, you’re very pretty, but I’m really more of a fixed blade man… ;)

Very nice Entrek, seeing this post would have made Ray smile.

ya don't fool around, John. y'all out there stomping around in the snow. beautiful pics and I enjoy them cause I'm sitting in warmth lookin at them..not all wet and cold out in the middle of it......
This was our first snow hike so far. Definitely not a big mile day. Kinda forgot how snow hiking is a lot different than bare trails. 🤣🤣
John 😁

There are lots of horses where I hike...

You may be wondering why I need an 11-inch chopper when I hike. Here is the reason: to make a hiking pole. I have Leki trekking poles made out of metal in my trunk but I prefer to feel warm wood in my hands rather than cold steel (pun intended).

What is this tree called? It doesn't shed leaves, they stay on the tree till spring, they are yellowish at first and then turn almost white by spring.
