Buck knife in the movies.

State Farm commercial where they are sitting in front of a tent . The guy on the left is using a Buck 192 Vanguard to whittle a figurine.

Not a movie but in C J Box's novel Nowhere to Run, game warden Joe Pickett heads after the bad guys in the mountains with his Buck knife. It doesn't say which model, but it is a fixed blade.

Not a movie, but a trailer for the latest piece of crap on the CW .

I like seeing the Buck 110, but for a weapon why couldn't they just grab the latest gas station special.

I've been binge watching Yellowstone lately. In addition to this scene in the first episode of season 1, Kevin Costner's character can be seen with a Buck 110 on his belt in several episodes in season 3 when they are at the summer camp. The 110 also shows up stuck in a stump while they are preparing breakfast.

Not saying you're wrong, at all -- but, from what I saw, the blade seemed a bit short for a 110. Any chance it could be a 112? (I haven't done a microscopic study of the freeze frames yet...). ;)

Edit: My comment is based on the knife Costner is using to carve a name into wood in Season 1/Episode1.

Im sort of surprised we haven’t seen one of Horsewright Horsewright ’s knives on Yellowstone yet.
Not that I know of! We did make them a bunch of our Horseshoe Coasters last year though:

I don't think they used any of em in the show. They were selling them at their publicity booth at The NFR last year in Ft Worth. Tough order, we only had four or five days to get em done and then overnight em. The wife built that notebook cover in roughout for em too. I know someone that was there, at their booth, first thing, second morning and they were all sold out by then. Fortunately, the producer we were dealing with never asked us if we'd seen the show. Cause at that time we hadn't. We watched Season 1, Episodes 1-3 and thats it. Few things from the cowboy side of things bugged me. When Kevin and the oldest son climb over the gate in Episode 1 to pull that calf. Bout that time my grandfather would of had em roped and drug em just a little bit so they remember not to climb over the gate. Heck, it's your ranch, how bout going through the gate so ya don't have to fix the sagging gate later? And, they leave the truck to pull that calf and don't bring a tie rope? Gunsel move. My son is about to get shoulder deep in this heifer. Notice the tie rope on the front legs and all the extra ones on the saddle. Buddy has got the back legs.

If its calving season ya got tie ropes.

Not either of them's first rodeo.

The thing we see often in movies of ours is the wildrags the wife use to make. It was pretty distinct silk and you could recognize it once ya'd seen it. It was called sandwashed silk and has a heft to it and a velvety feel that other silks don't have. Can't get it anymore, she hasn't made any wildrags since the fall of 2019. We use to wholesale em to Big Bend Saddlery down in TX, years back. We'd just shipped them a big box of 45 wildrags and they were on the phone ordering more. I said what happened why do you need more already? They said Tom Selleck came in and bought the entire shelf! Don't have any left.

Great post. Thanks. Your posts always have great pictures awesome scenery and the prettiest girls. ( I mean that in the purest most respectful way). You are a lucky man.

I’ll have to remember that rule. Through the gate or over the fence. Never over the gate.

Thanks! Yeah don’t ride in front of the cowboys either. He’d do some roping on that one too!

Edit: cowboss not cowboys, dang spellcheck!

Ya never ride in front of the Cowboss!!

Yes, It does look like a 112 in the carving scene from season 1. However, there are numerous other scenes in season two and three where he can be seen wearing what appears to be a 110 sheath on his belt (sometimes on his right side, sometimes on his left). The scene with the knife stuck in the log form season 3 I mentioned is almost certainly a 110.

In 'Most Dangerous Game' (2020) this 119 knife was thrown at Liam Hemsworth (52:33). Got a snapshot and magnified it. You can clearly see BUCK and the 2019 date code. I hope the movie studio is paying Buck Knives royalties for the use of this knife. :p

Typically, it works the other way around. People pay the movie producers to prominently feature their products in their movies and tv shows. It's called "Product Placement."

I just watched a 2021 Sci Fi movie called "Chaos Walking" in which the main character makes prodigious use of what appears to be a Buck 110. It has file work on the spine and appears to be a synthetic prop in a couple of scenes. Though he uses it for tasks such as cutting rope and striking flint to build a fire, he most frequently uses it as a throwing knife (yeah, right).

Apparently, the movie is based on a young adult book called "The Knife of Never Letting Go."

I saw that as well. Looked like an unremarkable movie but I was on shift and the crew decided that was what we were going to watch that night on FX. It was nice to see a 110 featured so prominently though, even if he was abusing it as a throwing iron :P
