Handguns are great because they are easy to carry (I prefer Diamond D chest rig), and leave your hands free for fishing rod, etc but are no substitute for a long gun. (IMO)If I had to bet my life on it, it would be a shotgun/rifle over a handgun.

True that. I guess it would depend on the location and what I’m doing.Handguns are great because they are easy to carry (I prefer Diamond D chest rig), and leave your hands free for fishing rod, etc but are no substitute for a long gun. (IMO)
That was one of the mistakes that got the guide (Mark Uptain) killed.Handguns are great because they are easy to carry (I prefer Diamond D chest rig), and leave your hands free for fishing rod, etc but are no substitute for a long gun. (IMO)
I agree 100%.If I had to bet my life on it, it would be a shotgun/rifle over a handgun.
I have a Kenai chest rig for my Springfield xdm competition 5.25 in 10mm. It's a great setup for hiking.I hike Glacier yearly and either carry the Glock 10mm loaded with Underwood 200gr HC or the Glock 17 with Underwood 147gr HC if around a lot of people. Wife carries the Glock 48 with 147gr HC.
Always have my light weight J frame Smith in 357 mag loaded with 180 gr hard cast in a cross draw holster.
Have Gunfighters Kenai chest holsters for both of mine, wife carries strong side.
I’ve always felt pretty safe doing this.
To close the bear gun thread .. just picked up a S&W 629 4” 44 mag . Will report back how I like it after I’ve had a chance to put it through its paces .
4 inch barrel with bear loads...... that's too much recoil for me.To close the bear gun thread .. just picked up a S&W 629 4” 44 mag . Will report back how I like it after I’ve had a chance to put it through its paces .
My main carry gun in the woods is a 2 3/4” mod 629. It is just the right size in a chest rig to stay out of the way doing chores or fishing. It definitely lets you know when it goes off though.Good lord the flames![]()
