Carothers and Guns

So, do I go for accuracy (1) or portability (2) ? What say you ?

I started my career in LE carrying a S&W Model 15, 36 and finally a 19. The only one I have anymore is a 642-1 which gets carried daily around home and walking distances. It's accurate enough for what I want it for, and easy to carry.

Once I leave home in the 4Runner, it's usually a G26 with an extra mag.

Something to be said for the marriage of portability and accuracy.

I always tell people carry the largest pistol you can carry "comfortably" because if its not comfortable you won't carry all the time. I would love to be able to carry a Glock 17 size pistol comfortably but I can't due to many Krispy Creme and Ice Cream shops. I've settled that what I will carry all the time "except at work of course" is my 365 with 10-12 round mag.

That's good advice. The one you don't have with you won't do any good when the balloon goes up.

I've been carrying a G26 since about 1995, so I'm pretty set in my ways as far as a "small" auto goes. I know there are other good options.

My favorite carry is a P365xl with a Wilson Combat grip module. 12 round mag with a 15 round back-up. Yes, I prefer iron sights for carry. And yes, I train to sweep the safety after I draw. It's actually the only pistol I own with a safety. I prefer that extra bit of "safety" for daily carry.

Thanks guys.

That’s what I thought too. The small grip for the small gun it is then … the bigger grip (about an inch longer) keeps hitting chair backrests etc, and prints larger, too.

Note that the big girl got a larger (and round to square conversion) grip while I was looking for the ideal grip for the small daily carry. No size issue in my night stand or when going to the range :)

I don't think anyone has video of one going off sitting static in a holster. Lot of them have went off putting into holster. DJ Shipley with GBRS Group just put up a video where a top guy in a class had his go off and he said finger not on trigger. There happened to be great video captured the incident and they pulled it up and as he was inserting into holster he allowed his finger to go into holster and it was crammed into trigger area and BOOM. When I holster finger always out at a 45 off the gun and look gun into holster. Rarely a time where you have to holster super fast.

I am probably wrong, but the GBRS video is a little suspect. The one organization which has close ties to/ sponsored by sig has clear video of a negligent discharge involving a P320?
If it's user error why only the smoke over the P320? Why not over other makers or even other sig products on a similar scale?
No one has been able to consistently recreate the P320 malfunction- the theory seems to be a constellation of parts at the opposite limits of their tolerances coming together for a bang intermittently. With more and more police depts and ranges banning 320's , I am waiting for the first sig engineer to turn whistleblower.
The following videos could be argued either way but I strongly recommend that CPK members reconsider using the P320.

Are there any manufacturers that have manuals that don't say that? I know that Glock, Ruger and Kahr all say not to carry with a round chambered in their manuals.
My p320 manual doesn't say anything about carrying with an empty chamber.

My problem is sig went on the offensive and went off about anti-gunners propagating lies about the p320 and that it was impossiblefor the p320 to discharge without the trigger being pulled. Shortly after, they changed the manuals to state you shouldn't carry with a live round in the chamber.

Let's not forget that the original p320 release had a factory recall due to not being drop safe.

Kinda amazing how they made a much more complicated design 40 years later (than a Glock), and STILL managed to drop the ball.

That said, with the advent of the P365 design,I’m guessing liability of admitting it was a flawed design, is a big reason they haven’t just gone, “We’re discontinuing the P320 concept. You can fit the P365 module in whatever platform you wish, subcompact, compact, midsize or large frame”.

I don't think that they handled that the correct way either.

I jumped on the P365 bandwagon a few years ago, right after the MIM part fiasco. I was a big Glock and Kahr fan, but as soon as I shot the P365, I couldn't go back.

That and the probably very lucrative armed forces contract for the military versions - M17/M18

No need to explain the safety. I carried a 1911 for years and have trained and shot thousands through them. I still sweep my thumb down on all just out of habit. My pistol that is by the bed for the wife now has no manual safety. A M&P 40 police full size. I've thought about going to a manual safety on some as I ride it like a gas pedal.

I’m gonna get a P365…..for carry……

Which ones best? Looking at the P365 Fise, but don’t know. Need the experts!! 😊
I would suggest handling them at your local shop. There are so many flavors available. It’s not the most friendly model for mag changes with my hand.

I’m still happy with my 365X bc of the versatility. Can carry super compact with a 12 rd mag, or a smidge longer grip w/17 rd mag (or just as a backup mag. Pic below). That said, I probably would have bought the x-macro if I’d waited. (Some folks will say no to comp’d carry pistols for a variety of reasons.)

I carry a P365 SAS. You either love them or hate them. I have a xmacro without comp. I'm going to get a 365X and install optic for carry. The older I get the optic makes follow up shots much quicker. To quote a buddy of mine who is a NC SBI special agent (whatever that means) when he first got an optic and started training with it he said "it feels like cheating". They now just got issued G19 with RMR HD. My SAS I can pocket carry in a pocket holster if I want.

More I think about it you are correct. After all GBRS is sponsored by them. I would guarentee all their guns are given to them. Of course they aren't going to bad mouth the hand that pays them. You don't see a sports person that has a contract with Nike trash talking them. On a local forum here there are a couple P320 Xcompacts for sale. One is $435 with T Rex side car holster. Looks like new. Other is not a whole lot more. When I bought mine few years back I know I paid much more. I got the RXP so had the optic. Crazy.

On another note I contacted Wilson Combat and they said they haven't had any issues with extensive looking at them but also they are connected. However I tend to trust them a little more as I've never had any issue with my Wilsons. See email below.

“Through extensive in-house testing and assurance from SIG, we have found our collaboration 320 models to be completely safe when used in an appropriate and responsible manner. We have not experienced any issues with our 320 models to date.”

Whichever one fits your hands best. I started off with the original with 10-12rd mags and experimented with them since. In my mind any version of the Macro is it, fits my hand well plus 17rds (35 sidecar appendix 🤣)

The Fuse is cool but for a carry gun Id be changing the fiber optic out

Sig did some Tac pack/ special bundles with the Macro recently. 4-5 mags, savior pistol pouch, maybe something else I can’t recall and it’s a pretty solid value

Or with the aftermarket support just buy a FCU from Sig or someone who parted out a 365 and build one to suit you
