Concealed Carry Gun or not...

Anyone have a Smith and Wesson .38 J-frame revolver? I'm seriously considering a 442 as my primary concealed carry . . . Thoughts?

I carry everywhere its legal, and about 50% of the time its a 442. It carries easily (for me) in a front pocket, and the somewhat rounded profile does not print much. 5 rounds of .38+P are enough to give me peace of mind, and I think would alter someone's behavior. Plus, there are also the benefits you get from any revolver - no FTF or FTE, second strike capability, no probs with limp wristing, etc. Good stuff.

Any guesses with the username??? Ok Glock 23 in .40sw. Has been a carry gun for almost 15 years.

I carry a S&W 340pd. It shoots 357 magnum or 38p and weighs 12 ounces. For target shooting I recommend the 38 rounds and 357 for self defense. I carry it in my front pocket in a Mika holster.

That's a sweet-looking revolver, man. Even my brother, who is not big on guns, likes the looks of the 442.

Would you recommend a 442 as my first gun? Ideally, I would like my first gun to be my primary carry gun (save some cash and kill two birds with one stone). Any advice would be welcome.

I carry the PF9. I was looking for something slim and this fit the bill! I'll probably be getting something different before too long though....not too sure how well I would shoot this thing under stress!

Every responsible citizen should carry. I'm not old enough to conceal but as soon as I turn 18 I'm gonna start open carring my glock 34.

Lots of gun porn on here, thanks guys.
I went and held the Glock 36 last sat. I believe that is the one im spending my money on.
I just need to get some shooting time in with it to be sure.

If you like Glock I would also advise you to check out the Springfield Armory XDm offerings I think the ergos are better and they make a great product...I love my XD .40 4".

Sat. I shot the XD9; upon TTD’s good words on it I had to try it out, loved the grip angle and texture; its trigger pull was smooth and had a "expectable" break to it.
The only thing that bothered me would just be an issue of my lacking range time with that weapon, its recoil was snappy to me.

The main reason I am leaning toward the glock over the XD at this point is the appeal of ruggedness. One case in point would be the Glock XD shoot off by Nutnfancy; the XD has two f.t.e. during the range time, they attributed the discrepancy to a lack of proper lubrication. Understandable, and as I keep my weapons, that would not be an issue.
As for 40. rather than 45. I was leaning toward the 45. due to my desire to not accumulate a large amount of firearms, I really only need three weapons; Shotgun, Pistol and a 308 rifle. The pistol, I need to fill different roles, from the ability to be concealed to the power of stopping a bear. That is why I felt the 45 to be a good medium ground.

A .45ACP will not reliably stop a bear. Go with a .357magnum revolver instead. You can use .38special up to some pretty decent hunting loads in full house .357 - far more adaptable to what you are describing than an automatic cartridge.

If your looking for a .45 go for the xd....... Or maybe 21 sf but the grip on the 45 xd is tiny. And awseome.

I understand that you shoot comp. so I value you imput on this subject but when throwing out the statement as you have above, it does me know good if you dont support/ validate your statment. Give me details of why you have come to that conclusion. Help me understand your reasoning.
