CPK EDC2

Moisture will just stay underneath handles scales once its there (sort of represents sitting out in the weather). I figure it would be worse with micarta, than g10. Rust does not effect a blades function either, but most knife makers recommend that you maintain and take care of your blade. Like Justin said, I have complete respect for what Nathan does and his product, I also like steels. The point of this hobby for me is to enjoy, use, and properly care for the blade that takes care of you. I learned a lot, and am glad I asked

Happy Friday!!

I'm not saying don't take care of your knives. What I am referring to is the OCD that I see on the forums. What I find even funnier is that many of these people will never actually use their knives. They just obsess over them.

Yeah, I know, some of you will now post that you use your knives. That's great, but I would guess that many on the forums just collect and never use their knives as intended. They might get scratched. :D Do you disagree? Just look at all the pictures posted on this forum.* :p

*There's nothing wrong with that. I'm just trying to make a point. I have read complaints by some knife makers that their knives never get used.

The engravings and spine jimping on EDC 2 are golden, what's up, that's awesome?

It's an effect from the machining process that is from the heat generated when machining that detail, that doesn't subsequently get removed because it is below the surface that the tumbling media can get to. Yes it is cool. There are several pictures floating around of CPK with heat-colored details left as-is.

I think this needs a thread of it's own - show off the color on your CPK blade. In fact I'm going to start one now...

I absolutely agree. But we are on a forum for knives.....we all have knife ocd in a way....I'm user, so thats why I care. Raised military, make your bed, sleep in it, own it. I wouldn't care about under the scales if I was just going to fondle the knife or take pics of it stabbed into a log for the forum. I am just trying to learn how to maintain a blade that might be my main utility tool, and could also be out on the boat a lot (salt water)

^ Aye, it is. I like G10 and tend to prefer it on the smaller knives which will used for food prep; tasks involving meat, fats, blood...

Not sure why we are talking about if moisture can get underneath the scales. There are a billion knives with pinned scales that can not be removed , who knows what’s under them? Maybe it’s the Men in Black universe?

Back to the edc pics and discussion please.
pinned and epoxied. EDC2 isn't....Because there is no epoxy and the EDC2 has screws in the pin, you are able take the scales off. This lets me do preventive maintenance need be, Hence why I posted the question. Just trying to learn.......so I asked

I mentioned EDC2 so I hope this post is up to your personal standard. Once I get the knife I will send you a pic!

Merry Christmas!

If anyone is concerned about rust under the scales, how about painting that area with something like Rustoleum or even just polyurethane? You would still be able to remove the scales.

If you polish up with some flitz and you leave whatever light residue is left over on the tang when you put your scales back on, I think you'd be surprised at how well it protects if you're subjecting your knife to a corrosive environment. I find it works great on my W2, 01 and other carbon steel knives.

Thank you for keeping the scales interchangeable.

I ordered two new ones with antique micarta and switched out the maroon linen scales, shown, on my everyday carry EDC I to dress it up a bit more. EDC II on the left, EDC I on the right.

Still carrying the D3V version daily but have the other steels to play with and compare.
