CPK EDC2

I was planning a short outing today but woke up running a fever ... I think that was just a hint ... WAIT ... the EDC2 will be here Monday ... then you can go ... at least that's what I'm going with ... just need some new slicey goodness to cure what ails you !!! They do hold magically properties right ? ...

JJ, jest aside watch out very carefully for this season's flu symptoms as it has proven to be a very deadly one and the vaccine is reportedly only about 20% effective. Hope that you feel better soon.

Thanks Casino I appreciate that truely ... I will keep an eye on it but most likely with me its our up and down temps along with being on the volunteer Fire Dept ... we get a day of 45 then next night we're out spraying water in -2 degrees and turning into to ice cycles with water freezing and ice hanging of our suits ... probably more a cold than flu ... but like you said this season it's best to watch it ...

that's why I stayed home ... I'm just sitting by the wood stove cleaning some guns and equipment to store after hunting season ...

and have a couple knives out to sharpen up this afternoon. And spend a little time reading on here catching up. And daydreaming about the EDC2 and wondering how to get in on the FK 2.0 and maybe a HDFK this year ... guess that's when you know you're borderline knife addict? lol

I haven't had a flu shot in 16 years! Never caught the Flu in (you guessed it 16 Years:eek:)

Tommy, I don't recall having had the flu shot for about 10 years or so too without getting the flu virus in the interim and the last time when I had the shot, guess what? Yes, I got the flu!!!

All that said, I think that the above is all old wives' tale and unless either not too old or not too young, healthy and not too much contact with the general public; it's still best to get the shot despite the fact that the flu strand is always seemingly evolving ahead of the anti-flu shots which are basically a concoction of guesswork anti-bodies based on the past flu strands!

Got mine......now it's being carefully guarded:
Beautiful EDC 2-Congrats

I see that we have our own conclave of anti-vaxxers in here. Long live us, the un-scientfics :D

Ha! At 63 years old, I’ve only taken one flu shot, and that was years ago. The friend I went with immediately came down with a severe case of the flu. Maybe it was just bad timing for him. I’ve probably been blessed with a good immune system and rarely become ill, unless I’ve done something stupid.

As much as I believe and trust in hardcore science, being born and raised in California, I will admit that I do have one foot solidly planted in the cosmic oatmeal realm. Maybe that keeps me from believing in vaccinations as much as I should. For many, the medical establishment and layman alike, they are a no brainer. But I’m also very leery of what the “many” say, especially if not backed up by scientific data. Maybe it’s just me being lazy, but no one has ever put enough factual information under my nose about the flu vaccine to persuade me to get one. I am always open to new information.. Mike

Funny people laugh at me but in all honesty ... the rare occasion I may not feel well ... getting out in the fresh air (even if it's cold) ... and working hard for awhile seems to burn out whatever it is and I feel better doing that then stayin inside just sitting around ... or gettin a good workout in ... building a good sweat and cleasning my body that way.

Being outdoors is sometimes the best medicine for a lot of what ails you.

I had all my puppy shots. I get the flu shot every year and haven't gotten the flu. I had my two pneumonia shots. Right now I am battling pneumonia in my left lung. At least that's what the doctors are calling it. I had a CT scan yesterday. Maybe that will give them a better idea about what's going on.

I dutifully had a shingles shot about 5 years ago. Now my primary tells me that there is a better one, but it's hard to get. So, what was wrong with the old one?

I had the shingles once. Holy crap I don't want them ever again. I started asking around about the shingles shot and even some folks that got it still got shingles a second time. If I knew there was indeed a better one I'd consider it.

Quoted for Truth!!!

The new vaccine is Shingrix. It is supposed to be 97% effective. The old vaccine, Zostavax, is about 70% effective depending on your age.

The truth about this stuff? You can't handle the truth. :D

I’m a nurse and don’t take the flu shot. Ironically, it’s the science behind the flu vaccine that makes me against it. :D

For your patients sake I hope you wear a mask throughout flu season. My sister's a nurse and they just recently had a small outbreak at her hospital both patients and faculty suffered. It started with a coworker on her floor (that wasn't vaccinated).
What science is there to it? A marker is created an identifying antibody is made and the body moves on until called into action if need be.

I do agree that fresh air and activity gets the body going helps strengthen immunity and absolutely helps in quicker recovery.

I also went years without a flu shot and then years with getting a flu shot after being around others kids and of course for the health of my own i felt it necassary. No flu since I was a teen. And I get handed hundreds of scripts and in contact with dozens upon dozens of people with flu and flu like symptoms regularly throughout the year. If it doesn't help... it sure doesn't hurt to get one either.

The very last sentence of your quote is highly debated. Vaccines, in general, are highly debated and is a debate I don’t want to get into on this forum. I will, however, say that it can, indeed, hurt to get a flu vaccine. Talk to the patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome and see how they feel about it.

I do not wear a mask. I work in a wound care facility where my exposure with patients is not the same as it would be in the hospital. Standard precautions, which I take with all patients, is generally enough to protect myself and others from anything I, or they, might be infected with yet be asymptomatic.

And for the record, I’m not necessarily anti-vax. I’ve had all the standard ones, and I also vaccinated all three of our children with the same. The flu vaccine is just one we choose not to do. To each his own, YMMV, etc. :)

My wife and kid both got flu shots this year, both got the flu. I think the shot carries a decent chance of giving you a flu that won’t kill you, in exchange for inoculating against a real villainous flu that might. I didn’t get shot nor flu.
