Do you know how to cook pâté d'alouette (lark)? You just need one lark and one horse...I used to be very fond of saucisson d'Arles Alain which has donkey, as well as horse and pork![]()
I can relate to your basing a recipe on using up what's in the fridge, Jack! Thanks Gary, the recipe was mainly based around what needed using in my fridge!
YOU FORGOT TO TAKE PHOTOS OF THE FOOD??!!!!![]()
Are you in Texas? Enchiladas may be the first solid food I ate. That looks good!
Brilliant post my friend!!I can relate to your basing a recipe on using up what's in the fridge, Jack!
In fact, that's what I did back on Yorkshire Day (August 1, 2022) when you issued your Chip Butty Challenge as you had the previous Yorkshire Day. The previous year, my lack of culinary skills were made evident, so this year I didn't even enter officially. But I entered in spirit, knowing that I didn't have the appropriate ingredients on hand, but I had some items in the kitchen that needed using and I decided to use them to make "faux chip butty". Instead of chips (French fried potatoes) on bread, I put potato salad on wheat toast. You must admit that my ingredients came from the appropriate "food groups", loosely defined. I took a photo and have been "sitting on it" for over 5 months waiting for an appropriate time to post it:

With regard to forgetting to take photos of my food, I simply don't fit too well into 21st century Western society. My dumb phone takes low-quality photos, and I don't know how to get them from the phone to anywhere else anyway. And the old point&shoot camera I typically use for photos is not something I carry constantly with me, although it's usually in my backpack that goes to and from work with me. Besides that, I'm used to "the rich and famous" in the mid-twentieth century having "lackeys" to document their lives for them. I suppose I wouldn't object if some crew of lackeys wanted to document my life for me, but I can't convince myself that, lacking the lackeys, I should document my own life with photos, videos, tweets for folks to follow, journals that can become memoirs, and all that. Hard to believe there'd be an audience large enough to justify all that extra effort on my part. (Have to admit that I'm far more interested in the food that Porch members eat than I am in the food that "celebrities" are eating.)
I will post another food-related photo here, though. I usually eat an apple and an orange (typically mandarin) each day, half of each with my breakfast and the other half with my lunch. So when I brought out an apple and orange one day this week and looked for a knife, I happened to see 2 very different knives and thought, "Comparing these 2 knives is like comparing apples and oranges." So I shot them all:
