Turkish-style Falafel sandwich in Leeds market yesterday

My daughter was in town last weekend, but her purpose was a reunion with the young women with whom she formed a string quartet while they were in college. (They made good money playing wedding/reception gigs.) So we didn't see her until midmorning on Monday and took her to the airport Monday evening. We stopped for dinner on the way to the airport, and my daughter took a couple of photos of my chili for me. I accidentally dropped my late father-in-law's Buck 373 into the bowl on the first attempt.

Looks like good chilli Gary, with added iron! :D I'm glad you were able to see your daughter

It was very good chili, Jack, although I'd be hard-pressed to recall a bowl of chili from ANY source at ANY time in my life that I didn't enjoy. ;)
Hadn't thought about the iron! o_O😁 Maybe I should dip a knife in all my meals. I had my annual Medicare Wellness Consultation and related lab tests recently, and I was "flagged" for being anemic.

You've got me fancying chilli for tea Gary, though it'll have to be vegetable chilli! :D Sorry to hear about your anaemia, my friend Tool Man also has that issue, which is rather surprising considering his offal-rich (or just plain offal) diet!

😁 :thumbsup::thumbsup:
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. When I suddenly lost energy and began falling asleep at my desk 8 or 9 years ago, one of the things the physician identified was anemia. I've been taking daily iron tablets since then, up until a few month ago when I suddenly couldn't find the brand and dosage that I'd used for years.

I've eaten, and enjoyed, a lot of vegetarian chili over the years. I think I'd have more difficulty giving up spices than giving up meat!

I periodically buy vitamin tablets, and then forget to take them! :D

Yes, me too
Looks tasty, and that's a great-looking knife

I've just had some tomato and lentil soup :)

Thanks Jack, was tasty.
The lombard is a good knife, sharp too.
Soup looks good, 1 good seller for the wife is lentil burgers.

Thanks mate, I've had a lentil burger, but it was about 1982! 😁 I do like lentils though, and often think I should do more with them than add them to stews, soups, and curries 👍

Photos of a calzone I bought during "happy hour" of the bakery next door earlier this month. When it was fresh and hot from the bakery, I cut off a small piece to enjoy; this first photo will allow you to visualize the size of my initial taste.

I think I eventually got 4 more servings from the leftover calzone pictured above. I'd often have some fruit and a modest slice of calzone that I took to work for lunch. IIRC the calzone contained Italian sausage and onions (and cheese), which you may (or may not ) be able to see in the end-on shot below. I think I may switch from pizza as my go-to bakery order to the calzone.

Looks great Gary, I'd love to live next door to a bakery, but it's probably good I don't! :D ;)

I'm surprised by how infrequently I go to the bakery; I have more self-control than I realized.
My wife, however, probably visits the bakery at least once or twice per week. She'll often stop at the bakery first to get fancy coffee before she goes somewhere in the morning, and she goes after 8pm to get discounted wheat bread (very good but even discounted, rather pricey) and "breakfast cookies" which are sold as a "healthy choice", but I find that very hard to believe - they're VERY large and use LOTS of sugar in addition to a cranberry here and there!

This traditional Italian soup is usually made when tomatoes are plentiful and cheap - rather than expensive and being rationed, like here! Tastes delicious though, I might have a second helping ;)

That looks delectable, Jack! I'm a big fan of pasta in soup!
