Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I guess I'm kind of spoiled living in California, lots and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables to be had.

Nope, I did it when I was working for Pepsi Cola.
Little know fact about Pepsi, since you guys like odd historical facts...
In the late 1980s, Russia's initial agreement to serve Pepsi in their country was about to expire...So, the Russians did what any country would do in desperate times: They traded Pepsi a fleet of subs and boats for a whole lot of soda. The new agreement included 17 submarines, a cruiser, a frigate, and a destroyer. The historical exchange caused Pepsi to become the 6th most powerful military in the world.

I wonder if me working for them at that time constitutes military service? :D

And since I ran completely off the rails with all this, here's some Lambsfoot content...

Sounds great John, when I went to Italy, and then Lebanon, as a teenager, I couldn't believe the range, size, and quality of the fruit, there were lots of varieties I'd never even seen before, vegetables too :D It's OK here now, a lot has changed over the pst 50 years, I guess when I was a kid Britain was still recovering from WWII, and there was much less refrigeration and air transport

Sorry to hear that John :( What a fascinating story!  So you reckon Pepsi could have won the cola wars?! :D

THOSE are my favorite kind of cookies!:thumbsup::cool: I usually buy packages of Keebler's Chips Deluxe (either Original or Chocolate Chunk); each cookie is about 2" in diameter. I used to keep a package in my office, but I had to stop that because I'd often eat at least 6 cookies per day. But I have them at home and seem able to restrict myself to one cookie after each of my 3 daily meals.

When I was a young feller I could eat half a packet of those cookies, if I did that now I wouldn't be able to get out of the door! :D

Nice pics of your walk, Jack!:cool::thumbsup: I don't suppose there's a llamasfoot blade, is there?;)

Thanks Gary, not that I know of! :D Great pic of your Union Jack

I wonder how much use those little lawn libraries have?
It's sad that we're not as "widely-active" as previously.
Man Jack returns, like clockwork, every 7 weeks, I guess! ;)
I walked 5 miles yesterday to an "emergency" appointment with a retinal specialist, and then walked 5 miles home. That turned out to be a bit more walking than I was used to!

The one on my street is fairly busy, and there's one in the bus station, which is very busy. I don't see the others in my area very often, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone browsing them. That is quite an urban hike Gary

Sounds interesting. How was it? (I’m guessing, like Sam Smith’s Chocolate Stout, it’s not one you’d want to drink several pints of.)

It's actually very different Barrett, barely sweet at all, very enjoyable, but I think a pint is enough at one go

Good Morning Guardians! I hope everyone is doing OK :) I'm up to my neck in work at the moment, so I'd better push on. Have a good one folks

Good morning Guardians. Today is starting off beautiful. Sun is out and temperature in the 70's. Going to get hot and muggy later on though but that's why air conditioning was
invented:D
Going out with my trusty HHB but I'll need to keep it oiled because the humidity around here turns all my tools into junk.

It will never heal, 3 herniated discs and sciatic nerve damage. I've been living with it for 30+years.

Oh sorry John, my apologies. Come to think of it I think you've mentioned it before. I hope it doesn't restrict you to much.

It's had a very negative impact on Leeds city centre :( The place is absolutely empty too, I don't know anyone whose even been inside. They even had the cheek to close off the main road (which it isn't even ON) when it was opening o_O As you can see the queue was HUGE! :p

Doesn't that photo show just how out of touch the people in charge really are.

Very nice :) I was just settling down with a beer and a book, but then I got a bunch of work in, so I'm going to have to forego any more beer o_O

When I was doing my nurses training I did some of my highest scoring essays in the pub. :D:thumbsup:

Union Jack is my lambsfoot this week:

Good to see you flying the flag GT. :)

I've used the phrase "Leaks like a sieve" all my life, but actually calling something a sieve has been uncommon for me. I guess I've applied the word to a wide short cylinder with a flat mesh bottom, and I suppose "sifter" is a synonym for "sieve" (probably from the same root word).

Yeah, all this discussion did have me wondering what you good Colonials would be referring to if you use the phrase 'leaks like a sieve'. As I know, like you say GT, that phrase is not particular to Britain.

Thanks for the compliment and the recipe link David. :) I wouldn’t say I have all the luck! ;) There’s several here that have been acquiring some nice older Lambsfoot knives! :)

Your welcome.

I actually noticed those tankards in GOT, and looked up that company at the time, but I never bought one. Definitely seems more practical than a traditional pointed drinking horn… at least you can set it down! :D

Yeah it was a company called 'Abbeyhorn' but when I do a search for them Google isn't returning anything for them now. It's a large Horn Soldiers Mug and they appear to be available on the U.S big river site.

It's a common enough phrase here. I've also heard the expression "brain like a sieve."

I feel like carrying the good old Rosewood Big'un today.

And again, a great photo of that beautiful stag Hartshead Bill! :)

Appreciate the compliment GT :thumbsup: I only have 5 or 6 nice ones, I'm afraid everyone is getting tired of seeing the same old knives over and over :(

Rob I can assure you we’re not tired of seeing your beautiful knives. Keep posting away my friend! :)

I'm not tired of it... it shows commitment.:thumbsup:

Got to agree with Ron and John, Rob, certainly not getting tired those wonderful old knives of yours

View attachment 1356175 Still going strong in my pocket.

Looking good Chuck

I had a younger friend who went to Iceland for a month. When he returned, I was telling him about the so-called 'Cod Wars' between Britain and Iceland in the 1970's. He said, "Oh, I think my mate Olaf got shot in them!" I had to explain that they were, for the most part, little more than a trade dispute :D

Good Morning Guardians
Keeping with the Super Hero theme... :D

Cool John :)

Sounds great Bill, rather cool and dull here, with some drizzle thrown in  Nice photo

Doesn't that photo show just how out of touch the people in charge really are.

You should have seen the size of the security contingent

When I was doing my nurses training I did some of my highest scoring essays in the pub. :D:thumbsup:

I know someone who wrote his dissertation in one night, fuelled by a crate of Gold Label! :D

All the proper food groups necessary and tasty too;). Your outstanding HHB standing at the ready should make short work of your meal.

Many thanks Bill, I must confess to having had a table-knife just off-camera! :D

I use the phrase 'mind like a sieve' daily! Though it's a bit of a insult to sieves really  Nice pic of your Big 'Un Rachel

Great photo of your Hartshead Jack! Don't work too hard my friend! ;)

Thanks buddy :)

Good morning Guardians! :) Today is an Ironwood 2019 Guardians SFO. Y'all have a great day! :)

Fine choice Ron :)

Yesterday we noticed a swarm of bees in one of our crape myrtles. My wife called a local bee keeper who came over and was able to collect these bees along with their queen. He explained that the reason they were there was because their hive was too full and they needed to start a new colony. The bees surrounding the queen were all female and full of honey. The scout bees were out flying around in an attempt to find a place for a new home.
