Handle Modifications... The Complete Guide (Hopefully)

Hawk, that's way more than just a handle mod...but it looks cooler than hell just the same. I've been thinking about that sort of scale design, like the heel of my hatchet style framing hammer - makes a lot of sense for a chopper like the 9. Seems like you could swing it hard without holding on so tight.

I think this type of hidden tang handle is called the deer foot or deer leg. From what I have seen, there are many variations. I started out with a paper cutout and carved the walnut block to shape. I spent more time refining the shape so it would fit comfortably in my hand and it had to work within the T.L.A.R. rule. (That looks about right)

I'm continually humbled by those around me with vastly superior skills and insight. I guess I can be proud for doing my part in making up the less talented masses........

Nope. Just used some grey cloth to make the micarta, then after I cut out the handles I sanded them until they were very smooth. But, the micarta maintains a nice, grippy feel.
 
Shout out to "Nsvens89" for the idea and " granitestateofmind" for graciously gifting me the tweener scales for the mod:

This has re-kindled the love for it, thanks a bunch guys :thumbup:

Im a fan of the TDI clip. Heated up an old mag carrier and made this sheath. Sits much lower than factory now!
