Looks almost like a petrified wood to my eyes, does it feel really heavy in the handle?

It kinda does look like petrified wood. It's not especially heavy to me though, but the slices are a bit thin so there's probably not a huge amount of material used. The handle is certainly significantly heavier than the typical G10 or micarta though.

EDIT: Amy has responded, it is "end grain stabilized grape vine that was cross cut and stacked in resin." So there you go if any of you get this in the future.

Some Custom shop goodness arrived in Ireland to cheer up an otherwise poor week.
Thanks to everyone involved really wanted wood scales and got lucky. Not sure what type of wood it is? Looks like nickel tubes with coloured resin ?
