It followed me home (Part 2)

Estate sale on my way home. Atkins Silver Steel, Zenith Marshall Wells rasp, and a big Nu-Cut. Is vinegar really the way to go to clean up files? Clean them with a wire brush and file card?
The hammer head came via USPS.

Nice, that hatchet was made by Vaughan & Bushnell btw.
I know this because this is the particular M which was the OEM code Sears used on all tools they contracted to them.

Talking 'bout files...This guy came home with me a few weeks back now.

miller that rasp looks hand cut

Cool!
I do not know what to look for if that's the case. I am most interested to know what you are looking for or at to see that.
If that's the case I didn't think it were possible to like this file any more than I already did...
Thanks for the heads up

You talking about the HELLER
Amazing.
I loved their shop, modest and produces such an awesome hand crafted tool.

Amazing accuracy and skill that man has!

Thank you Bob
Absolutely.
Btw I actually saw a YouTube video where a guy made his own files at home.
He used mild steel.an very deeply case hardened them.

That sounds doable but I would love a go at shadowing the guy and company from the video in that French village :thumbsup::cool:

I have been inspired to clean and rehandle the files and Rasps I have and use.
The orange Disston handles are NOS I have/had...

It's funny, but I've always called that tool a "Four-In-Hand". I noticed in the Northern Ironton File Set their tool is called a "Shoe Rasp":

It seems many others use "Shoe Rasp" as well.

Here is a page from a 1911 Nicholson catalog:

https://archive.org/stream/Nicholso...n 1911 catalog and envelope#page/n25/mode/2up

From Nicholson's website:

http://www.nicholsontool.com/files/nicholson-21870n-9-four-in-handr-rasp-and-file.html

Above for:
Four-In-Hand®

I wonder if the tool is a "Shoe Rasp" and Nicholson at some point registered the "Four-In-Hand" as a trademark for it. Calling that tool a "Four-In-Hand" would be similar to the way "Kleenex" is used to refer to facial tissue?
