Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

I am popping the corn!!
This is gonna be a good show!!!

About time you got to work:D. I cannot wait to see these. Not your run of the mill pattern being made by everyone. For those that have not spent some time exploring this thread I highly recommend it. Ken is one of those makers not afraid to get out of a comfort zone. And he does it extremely well;)

The tip bolsters on your avatar prove your point, Brad!

Here are some more of Ken's unusual knives. You won't likely find these patterns on ANY custom maker's table - except maybe Tony Bose's.

Wow, what an amazing collection of Ken's variety of work. Stunning!

Definitely one of the reasons I'm such a fan of Ken's work. He will take on patterns and projects that it seems like nobody else does, I can think of quite a few of his knives where I've just never seen another one like it from a custom maker. Really looking forward to seeing how his current projects turn out, love watching the progress pics!

Thanks for the kind comments guys! Charlie, some of those knives in that scan sure had me scratching my head at times, :)

To live life to its fullest, you have to do something that challenges/scares you, every day!!;)

Fine stable there Charlie! I remembered all of those except the Hawksbill. Made me go back and look, never a bad thing:). All fine examples of outside the box. Impressive to say the least.

Thanks for the oohs and aahs everybody!
Ken "does it better"!!

Looking good Ken. Hope you get into some of the subtleties of these knives. They are indeed worthy! As are you:p

Thanks for the kind words Brad, and yes, as I make Farmers Jack #2 I will go into some of the fine nuances that make these two knives different in their own right.

As usual terrific photos on an unusual pattern, great swedges! Boy, do I LOVE these precious pocket knives, always have always will!

Jeff

Can't wait to see how it looks with the stag on it! This knife has some really nice lines to it, love the bolster shapes and flow of the serpentine pattern.

Interesting observations Chris. These knives where made as tools first and foremost , with little thought as to how they would ride in the pocket! As evidenced by the very high riding pruner blade when closed.

The Rattail grooves are icing on a fine cake!!
And there are three or four custom makers out there who really know how to proportion traditional blades, and Ken is one of them!!

You're absolutely right Charlie,he has the eye for proportions,to which a 1/16" makes all the difference.

A few years ago this would have me peeing in my pants,now.......... excuse me while I run to the bathroom!

Ken,
once again, you make me stare at a pattern that wouldn't get more than a casual, distracted look from me, if it wasn't for your skill and vision. :)
