Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

So happy to have this one back, been in my pocket since buying it back from Tim. Thanks again for taking good care of it for me!

Anybody hear from Ken recently? Wonder if he'll be at the Badger Show in March? Still hoping to talk him into building me a cattle knife sometime.

^^ Stunning piece by Ken. Hope he is doing well.

Ken is doing well, I spoke with him at length yesterday. He has had a lot on his plate the last few months, (few years, truthfully), and he is gearing up to get back to doing what he does best.

I'm sure I speak for Ken when I tell you that he appreciates your support, patience and concern.

I recieved a email from Ken yesterday . Thought it worth mentioning due to my previous post .

Thanks for chiming in Blues. I know another South African collector will be glad to hear that.

- yes, very good to hear..........and that'll sure bring a smile to Steven's face

It doesn't take much to bring a smile to Steven's face in my experience. Like Ken, he's one of the really good guys.

How about a bump for a lost thread??
Any new Ericksons lately??

Beautiful Stockman, Jfowl!

The rusty rasp is my favorite! I love putting these beautiful knives on it for the contrast. I'm super careful though... And all my knives are users.

Very nice stockman. Seems I've seen one just like it somewhere before.

Hey Blues- long time, no see! I woke up this morning thinking I would get out my KE stockman which you facilitated for me and make it my EDC for awhile. It has been in the safe for some years. What a coincidence.

Good to see and hear from you too, Cal. I'm wearing my Ken Erickson Knives t-shirt as we speak, or at least as we type. Can't go wrong with any of Ken's knives. I had a lot of fun with Ken in choosing various stock patterns, blade configurations and cover options.

I haven't had time to dig through this thread looking at pictures, and this is my first Erickson. Bought it for myself (from my wife of course!) for our 10-year anniversary.

If you've got a bead on more stockman or cattle knives, send them my way! Nothing I love more than a well made 3-blade knife.

Excuse the crappy picture... I had to crop out everything that wasn't relevant, but here is the Erickson with his RBose and Halfrich serpentine brethren.

I'm a bit of a stockman fan myself and I have a few, including the cattle knife in my avatar, from Ken...(as well as a handful of other excellent makers).

I asked and had Ken build me the first of his yellow shadow pattern stock knives, and requested that he build it with a clip, sheepsfoot and modified pen (zulu) blade. In fact, all of my stock and cattle style knives from Ken share that blade grouping as it was something we planned together and it became sort of a signature theme for our projects.

Enjoy and use it in good health. You've made a fine choice.

ETA: I also have a very nice Reese Bose sowbelly stockman...and many knives from Jerry Halfrich, who, like Ken, is a close friend. In fact, I had the pleasure of introducing them to one another. You have excellent taste.
