Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

Joe gets all the nice knives! Way to go Joe. Don't let Don fondle it too much! Way to get back in the shop Ken;)

Here is one going to Janesville in Oct. (not available).
3 5/8 swayback in CPM D2.
John LLoyd supplied the very nice linen vintage Micarta.
1 7/8 oz.
As ground finish, half stop, flat ground.

Hello Ken. That is a very nice swayback. What size outer pivot washers did you use? Whatever size, they look great on this knife.
Nathan

Ken: Great looking as usual with all the right proportions. Glad to see you are back at it again.

John

I really dig that SBJ. Normally I'd say that it should have a shield, but I think it works well without, since the yellow handles and shadow construction give it a sodbuster-like style to it.

That's really nice Ken. How do you like the CPM D2?

Nathan,
The vast majority of my shadows use .250 dia. pivot washers and this one is no exception. At times I will use .187

Aaron,
I seldom install a shield on my shadows, as I also think they work well without. I like the "clean" look on these knives. I cut out two sets of swayback blades and springs and the next will be a bolstered knife with cap bolsters/shield/jigged bone? covers. This next one will be on the opposite end of the spectrum.

How do you like the CPM D2?
Gary,
I really like CPM-D2 alot!. I find it sharpens up really nice, takes a decent finish etc. I find myself using this steel more often than not lately.

Ken, the vintage Micarta swayback has 'use me' written all over it! Really a great knife. The CPM-D2 is an awesome user steel, for sure.

Here is another yellow shadow (G10 this time), no shield, with D2 that made it's way across the big pond with the kind help of a forum member :)
Great little knife! I love it and carry it regularly. Thanks again!

Peter,
Glad this knife is getting pocket time! :)

Here are a few wip pictures of a bolstered 3 5/8 swayback in CPM D2 . Still deciding on a cover material, although I just may put Gold Lip MOP on this one.

Very nice!
Just because of your post, I'm going to slip my KE EDC into my pocket when I get home from work today.
