Knife companies that need new logos

Most people don't know the swastica symbol is at least 15,000 years old and was commonly used by the Navaho and some other Native American tribes. Visitors to NM would be horrified to see them on buildings not realizing it was stolen by Hitler to represent the German National Socialist party and these buildings pre dated WW2.

Years back, the swastica was used on some products to indicate high quality. Like piping and valves. It's quite an ancient symbol/pattern. Too bad the Nazis used it.

As a young child, 3rd grade, I had drawn a few swastikas (both directions, and with the Tibet embellishment curved ends on a piece of paper). A male teacher saw and absolutely lost his mind. He went on a foaming, spitting tirade. Stooped over snd screaming at a scared little 3rd grade me. The screaming, loomimg, foaming at the corners of his mouth lasted several minutes. I wanted to explain I had seen the symbol in native art that predated modern times.....but....since I could still see his heartbeat in his purple veined angry face, I refrained from trying to talk....

In my profession, there are a few accusations that one does not recover from... cancle culture and fervent belief that one is a racist is one of those areas...

My dad would've beat the shit out of him.

Depending on your age, your teacher could have been a WWII vet, or camp survivor.
My dad would have waited until everyone was calmed down, and taken the opportunity for a rational discussion about context.

I knew a few punks that wore swastikas, solely because it most effectively upset their parents. Personally, I won't wear or buy anything with it. I don't even like the way Case marked their Stainless Steel model numbers with lightning bold SS.

Doesn’t sound like he was a good teacher. My mother would have beat him silly.

If you are doodling and starting from a central point you either draw a spiral or a swastika. No real way to avoid it.

He had no right to talk to a child like that and he deserved to get beat up. But back then people didn't think that a fist fight was as big of a deal as they do nowadays. Nowadays it's all about money - Fines and paying lawyers. Now lawyers expect to be paid every time some snowflake gets their little feelings hurt.

In his defense, he was a vet, and a great teacher. I would have loved having him for more classes. So no real hard feelings. It sure was a formative experience on the issue.

Not so much a logo, but that font CRK uses on their folders where it says "IDAHO MADE" is fucking HIDEOUS. I'm all for functionality over looks. I can forgive a "difference in taste" here or there. But on a $450 knife that's otherwise a real work of art, good God WHY use a font that looks like something out of a Flintstones cartoon on it? I could not spend that and look at that stamped on it every day. Just NO.

It's very similar to the font Piranha uses, must be an Idaho thing?

It could be worse. At least it's not Papyrus.

.

I think Papyrus would look better than whatever is on them. :)

Brad Zinker's mark will put you to sleep. Makes a blade look (figuratively) dull. Some graphic designer take pity and go pro bono on him already.

I’m am old school and equate political correctness to cowardice. There are things that I don’t like, but I am not afraid to face them up front and in the clear.

I'd love to see Spyderco change things up. Their bug looks like a tick to me. Having been through Lyme disease, it kinda bugs me. According to web lore, Sal thought a standard spider might put people off. While not quite in skull territory, I'd prefer a spider to a tick.

I also don't care for the ESEE ant. I get that they are strong, tenacious, well-organized little critters. They are also an annoyingly persistent pest.

A couple mentioned Benchmade.
Most of you don't even remember when Pacific Cutlery merged with Balisong.
A whole different company now and the butterfly IMO doesn't represent what well, they represent anymore.

Pacific Cutlery did not “merge” with Balisong. You know nothing about the late and great Les de Asis or the history of his companies. Please don’t post your ignorance.

I'm genuinely curious what possible connection you managed to make in your head between this comment and the ongoing conversation.

Well, I am sorry. See I assumed that you had read the thread. We had been discussing Swastikas, Walter Brend's Confederate flag, the Cross and other politically charged symbols, and some where suggesting that perhaps these logos should be altered. Feel free to rant on some more if it turns you on. but, do the homework and don't ask me to explain things to you again. I am in no way offended by plain logos or plain speech; communications are good and ignorance and irked feeling are a poor justifications for censorship.

Gee, I didn't read one comment that stated or implied that any company should be required by law to change their logo. The discussion has centered around the idea that some logos are off-putting to some potential customers, and it might be a wise business decision to take such reactions into account.

I hope my speech is plain enough for you.

That is exactly, how I read it and heard it the first time.
