Lanyard using Paracord with Diamond Knots and whipping thread

Dang this is so much harder than in looks! Here is my first (after about 10 tries). I couldn’t find the black wax thread i ordered, lol, so just used a core thread and sharpied it black. The upside is it can only get better!

Nice start! and yes, it can be tricky and if you pull one side before you should, then it can go all wonky, I've had to tie and untie and tie again when I am doing the wide diamond knots, THOSE for me at least, often get turned around and cattywampus like pretty quick!

Comparison of regular diamond next to a wide diamond knot, the wider one provides a better purchase to hook my pinky around when I draw my folder from my pocket.

Thanks, the wide Diamond begins like a normal diamond knot but you keep circling around the center which makes it grow

Thanks for posting all of these knots, and instructions. I've always enjoyed seeing different types of knot work.

A while back, I finally picked up a copy of "The Ashley Book of Knots". It's a classic book of knots, that has some 7000 drawings of over 3900 knots. It's crazy big and expensive, but it's fun to keep it, along with a couple of pieces of rope, sitting near my (home) desk, so I can learn a new knot once in a while. I don't know how anyone could put that much "knot information" together in a single book.

Round 2. Getting a bit “rounder”. The snake is a whole lot easier, lol. Figure i will keep at it with the black., then once i have a few down, start in with some color.

Added this video in the first post, it shows how to tie a diamond knot, sorry for the vertical thing, it made it's own mind up and after trying to shoot it, on the third time I just went with this.

I recently had an epiphany about some thread that I was using for the whipping knot, in the post above you see a silvery coloured thread that I used, well while it is a nice looking thread it wasn’t wax coated and I recently had a similar whipping knot untie itself on one of my lanyards!
I just happened to see it had started to unravel itself! It really surprised me but after seeing it I realized what the problem was, it was TOO SLIPPERY and so I threw away the remaining spool so that my aging brain wouldn’t forget and try to use it again!

So I will ‘stick’ with the waxed thread from Maine as that seems to be much better for the application of a whipping knot.
