Yeah I've been staying steadily busy that's for sure, and trying to find time to fit in to work on my shop! hectic around here right now lol

Josh,

Are you back cerakoting? Just purchased another TSF from the exchange that I'd like to send to you as soon as I get it to get some color added....

Ahhh not quite yet man... sorry it's taking longer than expected but we made a ton of progress on the shop this past weekend. I will add you to my email notification for the first batch when I'm up and running again though! I will be offering 10% off to whoever's on that list due to the wait.

Got a knife on the way to you. I'm about 3 hrs south of you and just now realized it.

lol that's awesome Kyle! Will have to meet up if you are ever up this way ;)

Quick question:
Do you have a sharpmaker or how do you maintain your edges?

I don't have anything to maintain the edges, unfortunately. Depending on the knife I sometimes use the coffee mug to touch it up.

Sounds good, although it will be hard to wait....:D

Look at getting the sharpmaker... I do this for a ton of guys, reprofile to ~15 dps then microbevel on the wicked edge. They can then touch up the edge for a year or so on the 20 dps setting before it needs reprofiling again. That way you can take care of your own edges for a long time! :D

Hard for me too bro! Can't wait to get in...

Let me know as well when you start cerakoting. I should have something to send you by then

I'll add you to the list!

Cool, sounds like I'll be having you do that for me. I've been eyeing a sharpmaker for a while anyways.

As a recent customer of Josh's, I can attest to his skill at reprofiling and mirroring. Just got back my 0450 and literally could not be more pleased with the consistency, appearance and performance. Truly perfection, and makes it a way better slicer than before! (Pic below, taken by Josh)

Hi Josh,
newbie question for ya;
Besides looks, what purpose does the mirrored edge serve? Does it hold up to light/regular use as well?
Thanks,

Hey Terry,

First off I just want to say that you will get differing answers on this from all over. People have different opinions and this is an age old debate. Personally, while I do them for customers, I do not prefer them. The reason being that for the time invested by you to do it yourself, or the $ you pay me to do it, it is just not worth it. It will loose it's hair whittling sharpness relatively fast and settle into more of a working edge that does not bite as well as a toothy grit edge will. Plus, I have seen some work to show that toothy/coarse edges have longer edge retention than highly polished edges do. But they do look nice and if you will be doing push cutting a lot then these are for you =)

update: Ironically enough I just finished up this Para 2 at 10 dps mirror finished lol. Should cut well and super easy to touch up (just add a micro bevel at 15 dps on the sharpmaker).

Thanks Josh,
I'd like to send some of my folders out to you this next week. The short back story is; all are new/ newer and have seen little use. I'm just not happy with the factory edges. I wish they were sharper, and held their sharpness longer. I've tried my Sharpmaker with OK results, but would like to think there is better. After your reply, I'm thinking I would not want a mirror edge. Sharpness and edge retention is what I'm looking to greatly improve.
Sound like something you could help me out with?

Hey Josh what is your turn around time looking like for giving the non mirror polish wicked edge treatment to a couple of my folders? Also can you do Ka Bar TDI's with their crazy 45 degree handles etc?

Terry, what I would recommend if you have a sharpmaker and for edge longevity and such is to let me reprofile them on my liquid cooled slow speed belt sander to 14-15 dps or so, then micro bevel on the wicked edge for a toothy grit finish. Then you can easily touch them up on the 20 dps setting on your sharpmaker. since all the reprofile work has been done for you you will be sure to hit the apex and you can maintain them a LONG time on the sharpamaker in between reprofilings. =)

It's 2-3 business days right now Brian... Yes I can take care of TDI's, both serrated and non-serrated models =)
