Return of the Mini Recon 1

Honestly, I think that release of the Air Lites just killed the idea of resurection of the mini Recon 1.

I know im pushing it but how about a medium Recon 1? 8” Lawman sized with no choil, 3 blade shape as usual. Kinda like code 4 with g10. It could do well, the Recon 1 is a good brand.

It will be uncoated.

Completely different knife. Not even remotely close.
Great news about being uncoated.
Now one other observation. If CS can see its way clear to making a 3.5 inch Recon1, uncoated, you ll give the PM2 serious competition.
The uncoated Recon1 s from Canada already compare favorably with the Military. Have to figure out how to make people aware of this. (And make the knife more mainstream).

Amen to this.

That sounds fantastic. Very happy with my Recon 1 in S35VN, but I’d also love to see an already spectacular design in a smaller package. High time the Recon 1 gets a “Para 3” of its own (again). :D

Also really excited about the uncoated blade. A properly maintained S35VN knife should laugh at corrosion.

I'm not on here very often, but coming across the new Airlite on YT, I had to see if there was some reviews to be found.
I absolutely prefer knives with blades of 3" or slightly less, and was very disappointed when I realized the mini-recon was discontinued.
I had been waiting to see if Massdrop would do a drop on it, cause they usually have the best shipping prices to where I live, in the middle of nowhere, or the outskirts of nowhere rather. The wait lasted too long, and suddenly it was gone.
The Airlite, although being a bit long is really the first CS knife that has peaked my interest after the mini recon 1, and even though I didn't find a review on it, the news about the return of the mini recon 1 more than makes up for that. I predict my CS collection will soon have two new knives. And those will also be my first two folding Cold Steels (finally!), unless I count the micro recon.
Also a big thanks to CS, for being so open about your plans. Really appreciated!

I always shake my head when people ask Cold Steel to do a mini version of a knife. The market is bursting with manufacturers who make small knives! Cold Steel, as the only maker of XL folders, should only be encouraged to make more of them. [can't wait until my local knife shop receives the kris voyager and kris ti-lite]

The market may be bursting with small knives from other makers, but they don't have Tri-Ad locks!

I always shake my head when you come in to every thread like this to criticize people asking for smaller version of a knife. You don't like other people's opinion, move on. Everyone has preference, and criticizing people for requesting for smaller knives is not going to change their preference. Cold Steel will not be doing themselves a favor to keep making XL folders, because that's not what majority the market wants.
Also, XL folders are not the only things Cold Steel is good at, there's also Triad lock, their designs, the steel etc. So not everyone buys CS just for the XL folders. This kind of "COLD STEEL SHOULD ONLY MAKE XL FOLDER! ONLY MEN USE XL FOLDER!" rhetoric is not helping CS's image in the market. People have stupid prejudices against CS by saying that CS only caters for mall ninja or for people who buy pocket sword to compensate for something, and we should prob not give them more reasons to.

Any update on this? Mini Recon 1 Clip Point is my favorite EDC.
- Under 3”, so legal in most places
- Great ergonomics
- Rock solid lock and construction
- Good blade shape

I have a few in AUS8 and more recently got an XHP version. The AUS8 version has better ergonomics due to the thicker G10 slabs- more confident inspiring as well. Smoother lock too. XHP has the better blade- XHP, DLC, and perhaps thinner along the edge toward the point.

The only thing I would like CS to do is to start the hollow grind a couple mm higher to make it a slightly better slicer. As-is the spine is the same height as the full size Recon 1. Also hope they go back to the thicker G10.

Just registered to say this.
If CS will bring back coated black handle Mini Recon 1 in XHP, 35VN, or something better, I will buy all of 3 blade shapes. And will use them in my rotation instead of Para 3. The best EDC knife ever.
I had a spear point and tanto point blades, one of them was stolen, another one was gifted year before. And a few years I can't find a new one in XHP around the globe! Im using Lowman XHP from time to time, It's great, but too big for my EDC.
The price actually doesn't meter.

I'm just a lurker, but I'm too waiting for this knife. It's nice to have a collection of all the different stuff that CS makes, but none of them are legal carry. I was thinking about getting a Sage 5 or Para 3 LW, but then I saw that this thing is happening, and since then I have been smacking my hands whenever I get close to the buy button on another knife (limited funds...). The Air Lite was very hard to turn down, because it's amazing, but local pricing is quite harsh (on any knife) and it would be just another knife that I can't carry because of it's size. If I go hiking, I take my AUS-10 Voyager, which is also excellent, but most of the time I'm in an urban setting...

Yes, CS has a nice selection of 3.5” and 4” folders, but there are no sub-3” knives in their current collection that appeal to me, other than the Micro Recon 1, and that’s a keychain knife. I’m embarrassed to admit what I paid for my XHP, but at least I have one!

Personally, I don’t prefer tanto blades, and while I never handled the XHP spear point model, the AUS8 spear point’s tip is too thick for my taste.

Coated or non-coated doesn’t matter to me, I would buy both. But I would slightly prefer a satin finish.
