SURVIVE! Bushcraft Knife (GSO-4.5?)

sign me up for testing a gso kitchen knife on steroids, in the 6 inch variety, about 1 3/8 height:D

I just happened to visit the SK website today and saw several new models up for preorder - WOW!! I just posted in the GSO-6 thread about how happy I am about the timing of the 6 coming out, but I'm honestly kinda bummed about the timing of this 4.5. I ordered the Starter 4.1, but given the choice at the time, I would have gone with the 4.5 as it suits my needs perfectly...love the thin, aggressive-slicing bushcrafters.

But now that I've had a moment to think about it, I'm no longer bummed at all. The Starter 4.1 was a great deal, I've got it coming in red linen, with CPM-20cv (my all-time favorite steel, and the new GSO 4.5 will only be available in CPM-3v because Guy wants the thin blade to be able to stand up to some punishment without getting any warranty returns), and it's relatively thin stock itself, while still retaining the SK bomb-proof status....Furthermore, the new 4.5 is only $189, so I'll just grab one of those as well - life is good!

So glad I caught that email this morning... ordered 2 in black linen!

Sounds like the perfect knife for my 2-knife days.

You both get two thumbs up...... literally :thumbup:

This design looks to be very well thought out, and I am certain that it will end up being a superb performer for its intended purpose. I am holding off on this particular model as it represents a niche where my collection is already over crowded.

Just ordered one of these. Can't wait. Anyone have an ETA of about when these will be out in the wild and in my mailbox?

It'll be a min there not even on the production schedule yet. They will be on the chopping block after the starters are finished.

I love this design. I can't get it off my mind. I look to just check the production schedule and I find my self about to buy this puppy. Something bout that thin blade of 3v calls me back every time. I can't wait to get one in hand and start carving with it.

I'm really hoping they come up soon, would love to have this in time for the fall weather... perfect time to be sitting by a camp fire carving sticks for no particular reason. Also known as "therapy".

Sounds like the perfect type of therapy!

If I was more of a wood worker I'm sure the 4.5 would appeal to me more. My knives need to be stout enough to withstand my own stupidity. Ha!

Considering how well my 4.1 handles things as my utility/kitchen knife this 4.5 could be a dream. Problem is I really like my 4.1 and don't like to double up too much. Might have to sell that 4.1 to make room for this. Decisions, decisions...

Get the 4.5 then decide. :) it'll make it easier to get rid of one.

Had I not just gotten married and paid for my dad's recent surgery expenses I would 100% be doing that. I really like thin blades in 3V. In a perfect world I would have an order placed for the 4.5, 7.7 and 8 and see which ones connect with me. Though you are a terrible influence and have made me look at my credit card one too many times today.

Really glad to hear about the first thing, but really sorry to hear about the second.

In my reasoning I think you could argue to the wife that you deserve a GSO. Girls get an engagement ring while the groom to be gets... nothing. Could you consider 3v to be precious metal? Then again, not too much is fair in marriage. Happy wife, happy life... good luck!

I sincerely hope your dad is well.

And yeah, don't count on anyone here to encourage you to save your money or keep a low balance on your credit cards when it comes to SURVIVE! knives :)

I can definitely understand not wanting to put them on a credit card... I have too much debt already, and am trying to fix that issue. Slowly but surely.

One plus side is that these knives have been holding their value pretty well, so the resale would be there if you need it.

Sorry grey, lol. Congrats on getting married. I call momma-toothpick my wife but technically we won't be married till June next year. We're saving up too. No ones gonna help us either. This is why I don't have a 3.5,4.5,7/7,&8 all on order. I had a birthday right around preorder time so I gave the puppy dog face and got two.

Hope your dads doing better. I'll try to keep to better credit morals, and stop trying to convince people. I can't promise though.

I'm on bladeforums, I expect bad influences. And good luck with the wedding planning man, it can get crazy. Best advice I can give you is do things the way you want, and someone is going to get mad about something but ignore it when it happens; it's about you guys on the day not everyone else.
My wife is already way too cool with my knife addiction so I don't push it on her. But Christmas is around the corner... I really don't need another small knife, but a GSO 7/7 or 8 is extremely enticing.

Yeah, I just got out of debt very recently and need to keep the good credit as we are home hunting, but you absolutely right about them keeping their value. It's a sound investment for sure. It's why I didn't hesitate when I did to pick up a 4.1 and 5.0.

Thanks, the concern for my dad is appreciated. He's in and out, but he'll pull through I hope, the big C is a difficult one. I try to not get in too deep on these survive threads because they make me want to buy the whole line up. It really is a sickness, and really because they work so damn well.

I'll do it if you do it. :D

Tempting...if it's not just me...

Just curious why there isn't a stainless version being offered on these?
