Interesting what you did with the wood, good result !
Yes, it came out pretty cool :) Depending on the thickness of the wood I smoke, I have two ways I go about it.
1. If its a bigger/thicker piece, I put about 5ml 24,5% Ammonia in a bottle cap, then I put the cap and the oak next to each other in a airtight lunch-box for 24h.
2. If it´s a thinner scale, I soak a piece of toilet paper, roll it to a little ball and put it next to the oak in a plastic bag and close the bag.
I usually wait more than 12h, but check the process thru the bag to see that it darkens.

I know that I could just put some ammonia on a rag and wet the oak, then put it in a airtight bag, but then I don´t see the result because the oak is wet...
The cool thing with smoking is that the gas penetrates the wood and darkens it all the way to the core. Any part of the wood that does not contains any tannins will be unaffected. I have only tried it with Oak, Juniper and Walnut with good result, but I know there are other woods containing tannins that will be affected. Jupiper will get a really cool aged look with olive to dark gray strokes in the pattern.
Smoked to the left, natural to the right

Thank you for viewing and generous comments. All metal reprofiling and regrinding is done on my Wilmont 2x72.

Even the spine trajectory? It looks so straight.

My brain must not be working, I would have thought you cut a new line with with something before flattening it out on the grinder.

Either way its very clever and exactly what I would do to make those lauri blanks look right.

Do these count ?

The tops " Mini Tanimboka Puukko " is at least Inspired by one.
The other was a Townsends " patch knife " blade kit I got as a gift a couple years ago, I wasn't consciously trying to make it look like a Puukko when I handled it but it definitely came out looking like one.
