The Traveling Spyderco Delica. . .

Dang. I hope he didn't go missing. I always look forward to updates on this thread, and was even hoping I might be able to get in on the pass-around.

I'm here guys. Apologies for going dark on this. Too much unplanned travelling the last couple of weeks. Cam has been in my pocket every day when not travelling. I could take him in a checked bag, but I almost lost two knives that way last month and didn't want to try it again.

Most days Cam has to sit and watch me do this

And occasionally get to do this
M0mtz0ll.jpg

The couple of times I was in town and could have taken pics I was surrounded by people. I'm trying to figure out how to hold a knife in one hand while taking pics and now have people freak out about the guy with a knife. I'm thinking before 6:00am my chances are better. Either that, or I limit pics to the house and the woods.

Haha I hear ya! Ultimately I think most people are oblivious. Most that aren’t will notice a camera in the other hand, shrug, and move along. But yeah, comfort depends on the setting. Good thing MMAR didn’t start this with a smatchet. :D

You ever get the feeling that you are the only one watching this thread?

Yeah, sorry again guys. Just terrible timing. Unexpected work travel, unexpectedly got a foster kid (child protective services calls and showed up an hour later), other stuff going on. Not going how I expected. Got some pics over the weekend I'll post. Hoping for an outing this weekend. Sometimes live just doesn't follow our plans.

Out with my new best buddy this weekend. Had to use Cam to open a box at Home Depot and she wanted to check it out.

Cam is moving on to his next host. Sorry not doing more regular updates. What's the saying about hearing God laugh when you share your plans (Woody Allen, btw). Spending more time doing knife stuff didn't work out as I had planned.

Cam was busy with me the last few days. Helping on some deck work. All the hardware on this deck was so rusted screws had to be pulled. Square drive holes just disintegrated when I tried to unscrew them.

Apologies again for not being as engaged here as I planned to. Having Cam was interesting and was my EDC 90% of the time. Not news that that the Delica is a very good EDC. A few things I got reminded of:
  • I don't like serrated blades much
  • Beater knives have advantages and I'll be looking to buy some
  • Even with some minor blade play, this knife is safe and fully functional - not even close to worn out
  • We generally need a lot less knife (cost-wise) than we carry
  • VG-10 is pretty decent steel
Looking forward to future updates. Cam should arrive at the next destination in a day or two.

Hey knife addicts, got a couple packages today!

Here is Cam, still in the box with his brothers strategically covering addresses.

This is the first small Spyderco I will carry. Cam will help me decide what my next Spydie will be. I’m looking at either a Delica, Para 3 or lil Native.

Couldn’t resist doing this pic.

Accumulated postcards.

Cam got to work on the other package right away. Still sharp enough!

The other package was a little cubby thing for the wife’s Miata.

Using Cam to cut away some wire wrap to get that cubby installed.

Pretty cool little knife. Good size for everyday tasks as not even noticeable in the pocket.

I’m about 20 minutes from Spyderco HQ so Cam will be taking a trip. Going to get some hands on experience with the small knives mentioned above.
Maybe get it sharpened if they’re not too busy.

Til next time.

Maybe if you tell them they have a celebrity visiting.

No Sal or Eric sightings but the employees were excited to hear about the traveling Delica.
I had Cam on the table to measure up some other small knives and both employees noticed it right away. I thought it was a zome but looking now, Cam is pretty unique.
John snatched him up right away to give him a "spa treatment". He spent a solid 20 minutes on the sharpmaker getting him to a factory bevel, lubed him up, then tightened some blade play and blue loctited every bolt. This little Delica has never had it so good!

Here's John being a badass on a Sharpmaker.
RWXNo2R.jpg

Cam fits right in.
One of these is my next office carry knife. I didn't even know the lil Rhino existed.
wMlpY7A.jpg

This history of the Native display was pretty cool. It started as a Wal-Mart knife!

A Salt showing off in the saltwater tank.
Ry0435Y.jpg

Cam all gussied up.
The employees went out of their way to find the very last 2018 factory outlet sticker. They said they give away tons of free stickers at blade shows etc but this outlet sticker can only be picked up in Golden, Colorado, Earth.
It's going in the box with Cam to the next host. John suggested I plop it on a Colorado postcard.
What do you guys think? Leave it as is or stick it to a postcard?
KY2LzaT.jpg

We had a great time at the HQ. Make sure to go if you're ever in the area.

I love the sign in the background. “Knives are extremely sharp...”
I’d say that’s been true with every Spyderco I’ve had the pleasure of unboxing.

Also, I didn’t know they had an envraving service. I may have to give them a call sometime.
Great day for Cam and the thread!

PS. I hope you took that Rhino home with you. ;)
